this month. The property had belonged to a charitable trust that took over the running of the garden

[Homed] Hi {NAME}, I was delighted to chat to Rob Riedstra, who, together with his wife Janene, bought [Trott’s Garden in Ashburton]( this month. The property had belonged to a charitable trust that took over the running of the gardens from its creators, Alan and Catherine Trott, in 2017. After Covid, the trust struggled to afford the garden’s upkeep and was forced to sell. The fear was the 10-hectare section would be snapped up by a developer and turned into a new subdivision. But riding to the rescue were the Riedstras, formerly of Auckland, retired to the Coromandel for the past eight years. Neither of the Riedstras are gardeners and I imagined suddenly going from retiree to owning a 10-hectare site dotted with thousands of trees, lined with flower borders and grassy avenues, and home to a world-class knot garden would be daunting. But I had not reckoned with Rob Riedstra. When we spoke, the couple was hours from Christchurch after having just caught the ferry over from Wellington that morning. The excitement to start their new lives was palpable in Rob’s voice. They’ve got a heck of a weekend ahead of them. We’ll check in with them in six months time to see how they’re doing. Have a great weekend yourself. [Kylie Klein-Nixon] Kylie Klein-Nixon Senior Homed Reporter [Kylie Klein-Nixon] Kylie Klein-Nixon Senior Homed Reporter   Enjoying this email?
