Magnificent Mount Eden villa A rarely seen and exquisitely preserved example of Victor

[Homed header] Hi, They say, “the market will decide”, and that was certainly the case when Nick Allfrey put his stunning turreted mansion in Ōtautahi up for sale in February. With two storeys, five bedrooms, an enviable outlook over the Avon river, and lashings of potential, he thought the home wouldn’t last long. However, after lots of interest, plenty of offers and a buyer retreating with cold feet, the home was withdrawn instead. Now, five months on, this grand old dame is back and looking more fairytale than ever. The home has seen many incarnations, the section was once part of a cemetery, the house has been divided into flats and used as a lodging house, and it survived the Christchurch earthquake. Period features abound, such as ultra high ceilings, stained-glass windows, deep verandas off several of the bedrooms, octagonal “turret” corners in the main bedroom and living room, and original ceiling roses and chandeliers. The kitchen is new, and the bathrooms are modern, whilst every bedroom has a river or garden view. With strengthening repairs, a new roof, new paint, and plenty of other little touch ups, she’s now looking like a million bucks. Who will be game to make her their ever after? We’ll follow up with the sale later in the year. Have a great weekend!
