They’re just so flat and boring, sucking up good land that could be used for flowers, herbs or vege. And don’t even get me started about golf courses - grass isn’t supposed to be smooth! It’s supposed to wave about madly, and raggedly like pampas and toetoe. No, give me a rockery, dripping with herbs, or rows of flowers waiting to be cut, or a moss garden, like rolling hills in miniature, any day. I’d even take a poorly kept lawn, spotted with dandelion, dock, and twitch over a pristine stretch of rye grass. So, imagine my surprise at reading about a lawn so lovely, and so popular, that it’s got [its own Instagram account.]( Putting the “man” into “manicured”, Christchurch homeowner Simon Slade spends hours turning his lovely lawn into a work of art. Cross-hatched into a green plaid, or boldly striped, his lawn is undeniably impressive. It almost - almost - makes me want a wee patch of grass of my own to tend.
