[padding] [If you are unable to view this message correctly, click here]( [padding] [stuff header] [spacer] [padding] Hi {NAME}, I have a confession to make - I’m not ready for Omicron. I don’t mean emotionally or mentally. Like the rest of the country, it’s all I’ve been thinking about for weeks. I mean materially. In the event one or several of us in our household contract Covid, I don’t have enough cans of chicken soup in my pantry to see my family through. I’m down to my last blister strip of paracetamol, and we only have one box of tissues in the house. Do we need more? How many becomes panic-buying, which [takes supplies away from those who can least afford them?]( I’m not usually this disorganised, but I just couldn’t bring myself to prep for disaster. After talking with virologists and GPs about it (see the resulting story below), I’ve decided not to fret. My family is triple vaxxed, we have a box of KN95 masks each to cycle through and we’re washing our hands with gusto. As one immunologist told me: “You don’t have to get more neurotic about it than that”, but it doesn’t hurt to be prepared and think about how you might isolate at home if you have to. This weekend I’ll add a couple of extra cans of soup and a box of paracetamol to our shopping. Maybe another box of tissues too? But just the one. That doesn’t sound too neurotic, right? How is your prep for Omicron going? Drop us a line at [homed@stuff.co.nz](mailto:homed@stuff.co.nz,) and let us know.
