The mother of a teenager who was beaten in a random attack says her son can only consume food through a straw. The 17-year-old was jogging in Spargo Reserve in Massey on Thursday afternoon when he was attacked by four boys who appeared to be a similar age. The boy’s mum, Louise Williams, said her son was left with more than 40 stitches. She said he had called her about 1.10pm on Thursday to say he was going for a run. By 1.20pm, she was answering a "horrible" call from him, telling her he had "had his head kicked in". Police are on the hunt for a dark-haired European male who was seen walking with a chainsaw in the area where the trees were cut down. Police hunting a vandal who hacked down a string of trees lining a South Auckland street have released an image of a man they want to speak to. The man was captured on surveillance footage carrying a light-coloured chainsaw near to where eight trees were chopped down in Harbourside Drive, Karaka, on Sunday evening.
