The mother of a teenager who was beaten in a random attack says her son can only consume food through a straw. The 17-year-old was jogging in Spargo Reserve in Massey on Thursday afternoon when he was attacked by four boys who appeared to be a similar age. The boyâs mum, Louise Williams, said her son was left with more than 40 stitches. She said he had called her about 1.10pm on Thursday to say he was going for a run. By 1.20pm, she was answering a "horrible" call from him, telling her he had "had his head kicked in".
Police are on the hunt for a dark-haired European male who was seen walking with a chainsaw in the area where the trees were cut down.
Police hunting a vandal who hacked down a string of trees lining a South Auckland street have released an image of a man they want to speak to. The man was captured on surveillance footage carrying a light-coloured chainsaw near to where eight trees were chopped down in Harbourside Drive, Karaka, on Sunday evening. Inspector Tony Wakelin, of Counties Manukau South police, described the man as European, aged in his 30s or 40s, and of solid build. âHe has dark hair with a goatee, and was wearing a black T-shirt, shorts and gumboots,â Wakelin said.

Air New Zealand planned to fly Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners to New York.
Thanks to Covid-19, passengers [who were set to take off]( Air New Zealandâs [maiden non-stop voyage to New York]( from Auckland on Thursday morning will have to console themselves with flights of fancy instead. The route had been given the flagship numbers of NZ1 southbound and NZ2 northbound and was to be the showpiece service in the airline's long-haul offerings. But given the [battering aviation has received]( because of Covid-19, the service has been postponed and no one knows when it will get off the ground. The airline says the flight's still "very much in the plan".
The start line at the Auckland Marathon begins in Devonport on the North Shore.
[Covid-19 disruption on races]( the closure of [New Zealandâs borders]( resulted in local runners signing up to take part in this yearâs ASB Auckland Marathon. Around 14,000 people will come together to compete in one of New Zealandâs most iconic sporting events on Sunday. North Shore Road [bus depot will be closed]( from 11:30am. Nearby Lake Rd, Seacliffe Ave and Vauxhall Rd will be closed. In the CBD, Shelly Beach Road will be closed along with Fanshawe St and the Fanshawe St. Between 4am and 2pm Quay St through to Judges Bay will be closed.

Ghouls will roam the streets this Saturday to mark Halloween. The Halloween tradition stems from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhaâin, when people lit bonfires and wore costumes to ward off ghosts. Some businesses and churches will host events on October 31.
