As an Aucklander, Iâve almost felt guilty about being so far away from Christchurch in the wake of the [terror attack](.
While weâre not there to physically lend a helping hand, there are still things we can do from here, to remember the lives lost and to support the community.
On Friday afternoon at Eden Park, all Aucklanders will be welcomed to pray for the Christchurch mosques attack victims.
The Auckland event, named ["Together"]( has been organised in conjunction with the Federation of Islamic Associations of New Zealand as part of a national day of remembrance to reflect on "the precious lives that were lost on 15 Marchâ.
A live broadcast of the [National Remembrance Service in Christchurch]( will be available to watch on a large screen in the stadium.
âI encourage all Aucklanders to come together on Friday to show our support for the Muslim community and the people of Christchurch, and to reaffirm our belief in a multi-cultural and multi-faith city and nation,â Mayor Phil Goff said of the event.
If you canât make it to Eden Park but still want to help, you could make a donation - every little bit helps.
The Christchurch Foundation has created a new fund to raise money for families and Muslim communities affected by the attacks.
Donations to the fund, [Our City Our People]( can be made via the foundation's website, at any TSB branch or by bank transfer to the foundation's account: The Christchurch Foundation. 15-3976-0091104-80.
The New Zealand Islamic Information Centre (NZIIC) has also launched a crowdfunding campaign on LaunchGood to help families affected by the shootings.
NZICC summed up the thinking behind such campaigns perfectly: "No amount of money will bring back their loved ones, but we do hope to lessen their burden in some way."

Anjalee the elephant, who was also relocated to Auckland Zoo
A young elephant destined for a new life at Auckland Zoo is nowhere to be seen, three years after she was promised to New Zealand. Nandi, then a 6-year-old female elephant from Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage in Sri Lanka, was gifted by the country's president in February 2016. âHer arrival was halted in 2017 following protests from animal rights activists and a hearing in the Sri Lankan Court of Appeal. The elephant's $1.6 million relocation costs were approved the same year but, two years on, [Nandi is nowhere to be seen](.
Tuff Crater path
Aucklandâs volcanic geography always makes for interesting running. And itâs not all uphill or downhill either. The Tuff Crater path in Northcote takes you on a flat route around a crater which erupted long, long before running shoes were invented. The boardwalk and gravel path, with views of WaitematÄ Harbour, is only a couple of kilometres long, but your run can easily be extended by heading over to Onepoto Domain, or towards the motorway overbridge. Sinead Dates
This past year is the first one I've ever spent properly single without leapfrogging from one relationship to the next. During that time, I've dated a dad, a doctor, a swing dancer, a chef, and someone who owned a Dyson fan and his own e-scooter (marriage material). While I may not have found my one true love, I've learnt a few things along the way - including never to arrange a first date for a Friday or Saturday night and never to hook up with someone you work with. Cotton fabric
A Neighbourly member in Auckland has put a call out for fabric and thread to help her create kits for women in need. The member is sewing brightly-coloured cotton drawstring bags which will be used as female hygiene kits - filled with all the necessary items women need each month. The kits are being made on behalf of Days For Girls - an international charity that distributes kits to women throughout the world, including New Zealand and the Pacific islands. The Orewa-based member is specifically after donations of cotton fabrics and thread to sew the bags. [Find out how you can help here](.

This week, a reader writes: I want to take my husband out for a very special, significant-figure birthday dinner. Emphasis on the 'very special' - where is guaranteed to provide an experience that hits that spot? [Check out our answer here]( - while there's been a significant drop-off in the number of 'fine dining' restaurants following the global financial crisis, the few that remain set a very high benchmark.
