Senior reporter Colleen Hawkes followed up a Stuff [Homed story from 2021]( which detailed then-19-year-old Taylor Henderson’s plan to buy an old and run-down historic Hutt Valley cottage - unwanted by its owners - and move it to his family’s land in Featherston for renovation. True to his plans, Taylor, an apprentice builder, did up the wee house, which is thought to be one of Lower Hutt’s oldest surviving and unaltered pioneer cottages. And he did so in keeping with its historic past. For instance, he gave the bathroom a heritage look with a pull chain toilet with an elevated copper cistern and plumbing, plus a claw-foot bathtub. It won’t be Taylor’s last project: He’s now a fully qualified builder working in Featherston, and has even branched out on his own, hiring an apprentice to help with jobs. We might need to watch this space. Happy weekend Joanna Davis Homed editor Joanna Davis Homed editor Enjoying this email?
