And he lost his job over an eighth of a point… Stanton met with one of the largest shareholders of his company and asked him a question… What price would he be willing to sell his shares back to the company? The shareholder quickly responded with a price of $11.50 per share, to which Stanton agreed. In May of 1964, shortly after the meeting, Stanton sent a letter to shareholders offering to buy 225,000 shares of its stock for $11.375 per share… an eighth of a point less than what he had agreed to previously with the aforementioned large shareholder.
