Follow these steps now ⦠January 21 [View Online]( [stockshiftstrategies logo]( Among other public buildings in a certain town, which for many reasons it will be prudent to refrain from mentioning, and to which I will assign no fictitious name, there is one anciently common to most towns, great or small: to wit, a workhouse; and in this workhouse was born; on a day and date which I need not trouble myself to repeat, inasmuch as it can be of no possible consequence to the reader, in this stage of the business at all events; the item of mortality whose name is prefixed to the head of this chapter. For a long time after it was ushered into this world of sorrow and trouble, by the parish surgeon, it remained a matter of considerable doubt whether the child would survive to bear any name at all; in which case it is somewhat more than probable that these memoirs would never have appeared; or, if they had, that being comprised within a couple of pages, they would have possessed the inestimable merit of being the most concise and faithful specimen of biography, extant in the literature of any age or country. Gabe scowled. âI donât remember that.â âYou werenât working that shift,â Larissa pointed out. âI was on with Dr. Gardener.â Deputy Armbruster pursed his lips. âWe could maybe argue that itâs a pattern, but again, not likely. I got a black eye myself playing softball with my girls.â He smiled grimly. âMy daughter Elise has a good arm.â Gabe understood what the deputy was saying, but that didnât mean he had to like it. âSo what can we do?â âLook, I can go chat with Kurt if you want me to. At least heâll know that weâre on to him andââ âNo,â Larissa interrupted harshly. âDonât.â âWhat?â Gabe glared at her. âWhy not?â
Dear Reader, This past July, banks across America made a disturbing change. It handed the Federal Reserve DIRECT control over how money comes into and out of your bank account. Very soon, you could wake up to discover your money has been frozen ⦠or even confiscated. Itâs happened to innocent people before, and I donât want you to be next. Thatâs why Iâve put together [these three simple steps you can use to protect your money.](
âBecause heâll be mad and take his anger out on her, thatâs why.â Larissa turned toward Deputy Armbruster. âIf you canât arrest him, then just leave it alone.â Gabe couldnât believe what he was hearing. What was she doing? Why wasnât Larissa standing up for their patient? âI think it would do Kurt good to know weâre on to him.â âWhy?â Larissa asked, her green eyes sparking fire. âSo next time he can hurt her where the bruises wonât show?â What? He took a step back. âNo, of course not.â âLeave it alone,â she pleaded. âIâll talk to Annie, okay? Maybe I can help in ways the police canât.â Deputy Armbruster shrugged. âOkay, let me know if anything changes.â âGabe? We need your help over here,â Merry called. âThis patientâs breathing is getting worse.â âGo ahead, Iâll talk to Annie,â Larissa said. Reluctantly, he nodded and hurried over to where Merry was standing beside another patient who was clearly in distress. The beeping oxygen-saturation monitor showed numbers that were steadily declining. âGet me an intubation tray now.â All thoughts regarding his other patients vanished as he quickly focused on saving this gentlemanâs life. He placed the breathing tube and then quickly connected the oxygen supply, giving him several slow, deep breaths. âO2 sat up to 90 percent,â Merry announced with satisfaction. The respiratory therapist came over to secure the tube. Gabe kept an eye on the guyâs vital signs, reassured that he was holding his own, at least for the moment. âAll right, call up to the ICU and let them know we have a patient for them.â âWill do,â Merry promised.
Once you put them in place, you can rest easy at night. You wonât be helpless to the Federal Reserveâs power. And, because of an odd "quirk" to how this works, you could stand to actually make more money. [Click here to find out how.]( Best, Eliza Lasky

Gabe did a quick visual check on the other patients under his care before heading back over to where Larissa was sitting beside Annie Hinkle. Annie was staring down at the cast heâd ordered to be placed on her wrist after determining that indeed sheâd suffered two minor fractures. Which could have easily been far worse. The good news was that she wouldnât need surgery. The bad news was that heâd have to discharge her home. Back to her abusive husband. He paused outside the doorway, listening as Larissa spoke softly to Annie. âHereâs my name and phone number,â Larissa said, pressing a small, folded piece of paper into Annieâs uninjured hand. âCall me if you feel afraid, or if you just want to talk. Iâd be happy to help in any way I can.â âThank you,â Annie whispered. âBut really, Iâm fine. Just a bit klutzy.â âRemember what I told you?â Larissa asked. Annie slowly lifted her gaze to meet Larissaâs. Her softly spoken âyesâ sounded almost like an admission. âCall me anytime,â Larissa repeated. âI will.â You are receiving this editorial email with advertisements at {EMAIL} because you opted in for this service. [Logo]( But Buck was neither house-dog nor kennel-dog. The whole realm was his. He plunged into the swimming tank or went hunting with the Judgeâs sons; he escorted Mollie and Alice, the Judgeâs daughters, on long twilight or early morning rambles; on wintry nights he lay at the Judgeâs feet before the roaring library fire; he carried the Judgeâs grandsons on his back, or rolled them in the grass, and guarded their footsteps through wild adventures down to the fountain in the stable yard, and even beyond, where the paddocks were, and the berry patches. Among the terriers he stalked imperiously, and Toots and Ysabel he utterly ignored, for he was king,âking over all creeping, crawling, flying things of Judge Millerâs place, humans included. His father, Elmo, a huge St. Bernard, had been the Judgeâs inseparable companion, and Buck bid fair to follow in the way of his father. He was not so large,âhe weighed only one hundred and forty pounds,âfor his mother, Shep, had been a Scotch shepherd dog. Nevertheless, one hundred and forty pounds, to which was added the dignity that comes of good living and universal respect, enabled him to carry himself in right royal fashion. During the four years since his puppyhood he had lived the life of a sated aristocrat; he had a fine pride in himself, was even a trifle egotistical, as country gentlemen sometimes become because of their insular situation. But he had saved himself by not becoming a mere pampered house-dog. Hunting and kindred outdoor delights had kept down the fat and hardened his muscles; and to him, as to the cold-tubbing races, the love of water had been a tonic and a health preserver. And this was the manner of dog Buck was in the fall of 1897, when the Klondike strike dragged men from all the world into the frozen North. But Buck did not read the newspapers, and he did not know that Manuel, one of the gardenerâs helpers, was an undesirable acquaintance. Manuel had one besetting sin. He loved to play Chinese lottery. Also, in his gambling, he had one besetting weaknessâfaith in a system; and this made his damnation certain.
