Hereâs Why Longfin Corp Surged Over 200 Percent Today
Fresh IPO company Longfin Corp. LFIN surged over 200 percent today joining the myriad of companies in the blockchain industry. The stock printed fresh 52 week intraday highs of $18.44 on heavy volume after announcing the acquisition of Ziddu.com, a Blockchain-empowered solutions provider that offers Microfinance Lending against Collateralized Warehouse Receipts in the form of Ziddu Coins.
Ziddu Coin is a smart contract that enables SMEâs, processors, manufacturers, importers and exporters using cryptocurrencies across continents. Ziddu Coins are loosely pegged to Ethereum and Bitcoin. The importers/exporters convert offered Ziddu coins into Ethereum or Bitcoin and use the proceeds for their working capital needs. At the end of the contract, importers/exporters will realize their proceeds and pay back their funds through cryptocurrencies only. Depending upon the risk profile of the counterparty, the interest will vary from 12% to 48%.
âThe advent of Blockchain technology has caught the imagination of the global financial services industry; blockchain is emerging as a technological revolution that is set to disrupt the financial services infrastructure. Cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum will act as a global financing currency to avail credit against hard currencies of many emerging markets.â Says Venkat Meenavalli, Chairman of Longfin Corp

Campbell Risks Overpaying for Pretzels
Snacks maker Snyder's-Lance Inc. is expensive and recently delivered third-quarter earnings that fell short of estimates. That's not stopping its growth-starved larger rivals from turning it into a takeover target.
The Charlotte, North Carolina-based maker of Snyder's pretzels and Cape Cod potato chips is weighing a possible sale after an approach from Campbell Soup Co., and remains in talks with the company and at least one other suitor, CNBC reported Thursday. Takeover prospects sent the stock soaring almost 13 percent to a record, giving it a market capitalization of $4.3 billion and a valuation that is far above its own five-year average and that of its peers.
A deal for Snyder's-Lance fits with Campbell's pivot toward segments that are actually delivering growth. As my colleague Tara Lachapelle has written, the waning popularity of products like soup is putting pressure on the $15 billion packaged-food giant to seek acquisitions so it can preserve profits and hold on to its share of shelf space at grocery stores. Just this week, Campbell closed on its $700 million purchase of organic broth maker Pacific Foods of Oregon, its biggest acquisition since 2012 and a transaction that it pursued even though it will be dilutive to 2018 earnings (which perturbed some investors).

New study shows marijuana might help HIV patients
The stereotypical pot user isnât exactly known to be mentally sharp, but new research has found that the drug might do just that â for HIV patients, at least.
Thatâs the takeaway from a new study published in the journal AIDS that found that tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) may help slow mental decline in people with HIV. Mental decline is a big concern for people with HIV â it affects up to 50 percent of patients with the disease, lead study author Norbert Kaminski, a professor of pharmacology and toxicology at Michigan State University, tells Yahoo Lifestyle.
Mental decline in HIV patients is caused by inflammation, Kaminski explains â specifically, inflammatory white blood cells called monocytes that can cross the blood-brain barrier and cause inflammation in the brain.
For the study, Kaminski and his co-author, Mike Rizzo, took blood samples from 40 HIV patients â including people who did and didnât use medicinal marijuana â and isolated their white blood cells. They then studied the inflammatory cell levels and effect that marijuana had on their cells.
Hereâs what they found: People who had cannabinoids (chemical compounds created by cannabis) in their bloodstream had inflammatory cell levels that were similar to healthy people who werenât infected with HIV. But HIV patients who didnât use medicinal marijuana had very high levels compared with people who used pot.
Sincerely,
