Recently, Emhoff put out a public statement, admitting that he had an extramarital affair with their children's nanny during his first marriage to film producer Kerstin Emhoff. In a statement to CNN Emhoff said that he and Kerstin (his first wife) were going "through some tough times" due to his "actions." But they dealt with the issues "as a family" and are now stronger. "During my first marriage, Kerstin and I went through some tough times on account of my actions," Emhoff [said in his statement](. "I took responsibility, and in the years since, we worked through things as a family and have come out stronger on the other side." Translation: His ex-wife kicked him to the curb because he got the babysitter pregnant. You may be curious about what triggered this confession. A recent report stated that Emhoff had an affair with the couple's nanny, Najen Naylor, now 47. A close friend, who was reportedly aware of the affair as well as the supposed pregnancy, claimed that Naylor did not keep the baby. Naylor herself [did not make any comments]( when approached by the media. At the time of the alleged affair, Naylor was employed as a teaching assistant and teacher at the Willows Community School in Culver City, California, and also served as a nanny for Emhoff's daughter, Ella. Stacey Brooks, another friend of Naylor's, confirmed the affair and the pregnancy. However, she did not offer further details without Naylor's consent. Meanwhile, another friend of Naylor's refuted the pregnancy claims, stating, "There was no baby." This friend spoke favorably of Naylor, describing her as a sought-after teacher among parents at the school and that she hailed from a respectable family. Despite all these statements and contradictions, Emhoff's public acknowledgment is creating havoc for the Harris campaign. In the midst of these revelations, Kerstin Emhoff commended her ex-husband for being an excellent father to their children and a loyal friend to her. She stated, "Doug and I chose to dissolve our marriage for various reasons, many years ago. He is a wonderful father to our children, has remained a loyal friend to me, and I am truly proud of the nurturing and supportive family that Doug, Kamala, and I have created together." We still never got an explanation for this, though.
