MINNESOTA Good morning, Minnesota! Today's edition is dedicated to our indefatigable politics team, who have worked nearly nonstop through a presidential election shakeup, a Minnesotan's ascent to national prominence and last night's primaries ð«¡ On to the news ð¢ [Eder Campuzano] By Eder Campuzano TODAY’S TOP STORIES - [Walz responds to Vance’s questioning of his military record, says no veteran should be condemned](

The national spotlight may have shone most brightly on U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar's re-election bid following the defeat of fellow Squad members Cori Bush and Jamaal Bowman. This year's primary was a rematch of her 2022 bid, when Omar faced off against former Minneapolis City Council Member Don Samuels. Omar won the primary by 2 percentage points back then. This year, she cruised to victory with 56% of the vote to Samuels' 43%. Richard Tsong-Taatarii/Star Tribune Just before 7 p.m., the third-term congresswoman was rallying with supporters outside the Wedge Community Co-Op on the corner of Lyndale Avenue and W. 22nd Street in Minneapolis. In the contest to determine which Republican will take on U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar in November, Royce White won the party nomination with nearly 39% of the vote. White barred Star Tribune journalists from his election watch party, telling one of our photographers: "no Star Tribune, no commies." Exit light, enter four consecutive nights of rock ð¤ð½ There are few musical acts I'd pay more than $100 to see live. But music writer Chris Riemenschneider recently spoke with a man who's thrown down a whopping $800 to attend a series of rock shows in Minneapolis this weekend, with the promise of more splurging on merchandise in the days to come. The festival will take place July 18-20, Chris Riemenschneider reports. A few of us here at the Star Tribune correctly predicted that Alanis Morissette and Red Hot Chili Peppers would headline this year's iteration. â THE MINNESOTA GOODBYE s1gnalZer0 via Reddit Yes, I know this is our second flag-flavored Minnesota Goodbye in as many days, but bear with me here. As interesting as I find this finalist for the city of Cleveland's new banner, the end of today's edition of Essential Minnesota will also serve as a PSA: "The Drew Carey Show" is finally available on a streaming service. You can find it on the ad-supported Plex platform, where for some reason the commercials butt in at odd intervals even though the sitcom was aired with those breaks built-in. Oh, well. It's a small price to pay to relive those lazy weekday afternoons when you were channel-surfing and waiting for reruns of "The Simpsons" to come on.
