And several billboards in New York City's Times Square lit up with the so-called "blue screen of death" that follows a botched software update. Microsoft users reported tech outages globally this morning following a glitched-out software update by the digital security firm CrowdStrike. The update had a "negative interaction" with the company's systems, CEO George Kurtz told NBC's "Today" show. "It wasn't a cyberattack. It was related to a content update," he said. "We identified it quickly and remediated it. We are working with each and every customer to bring them back online. We are deeply sorry for the impact we have caused to customers, travelers, to anybody affected by this." The impacts were most acutely felt at airports. The outage grounded some 1,200 flights across the country and about 2,100 worldwide. About 21,000 flights were delayed. About 100 flights at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport were grounded before 8 a.m. Airport spokesman Jeff Lea said that number is likely to grow. "Just like with winter storms, if flights are canceled in other parts of the country, they don't make it here," he said. "We could see the domino effect." Tim Harlow has the [full story about the outages here](. â

Republicans leave Wisconsin energized and focused Could Minnesota hand its eight electoral votes to a Republican for the first time since 1972? Several high-ranking members of the party certainly think so! The Republican National Convention wrapped up Thursday and the GOP likes its odds in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, particularly after former President Donald Trump chose Sen. And like with so many of the questions we field in Curious Minnesota, it's complicated. For starters, no one is really studying the lake's leech populations, making it difficult to say for sure. But many anglers say they're seeing fewer of the annelids and at least one Department of Natural Resources official says invasive species like zebra mussels and rusty crayfish may play a role. â THE MINNESOTA GOODBYE Tane Danger/Twitter Remember how yesterday I said that a love for organization and itinerary-making was a sure sign that you're growing up? Well, add one more to the list. Westminster Town Hall Forum co-founder and all-around good guy Tane Danger recently posted this dispatch from a trip to Rochester for the city's weekly Thursdays Downtown street fair. He came away with a wooden spoon as a keepsake and, as a millennial firmly positioned in the middle of the generation, I say: Relatable. Long gone are our days of collecting flashy souvenirs and novelty items when we leave our humble abodes. These days, I'm constantly on the prowl for things that have a practical use in my everyday life and Tane's selfie immediately inspired me to think of the various soups and stews I could whip up with a sturdy new wooden spoon. I can't possibly be alone here, right? (And if you've got a recipe, I'd love to see it.
