Mitchell was the first officer on the scene to a call of an altercation in the Whittier neighborhood and was fatally shot by the suspect, Mustafa Ahmed Mohamed, after he attempted to provide medical assistance. He's the first Minneapolis officer killed in the line of duty in more than two decades. "Jamal died doing what society asks all police officers to do. He did his job, and he was loyal to his oath until his death," Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara said in a statement. "There is no more honorable service one can provide." [image] Provided Today's service comes a little more than three months after thousands mourned the death of two Burnsville police officers and a firefighter/paramedic at a church in Eden Prairie. How to watch Mitchell's public funeral The service will take place at Maple Grove High School, 9800 Fernbrook Lane. Seating for the general public began at 9 a.m. The service is expected to last roughly two hours. Space is limited. The only parking near the school available for the public will be at Maple Grove Parkway Station, 9870 Maple Grove Pkwy. The parking lot opened at 8 a.m. Expect traffic The procession will begin at 2 p.m. after a brief commemoration outside Hopkins High following the funeral. Officials expect delays on Interstate 494 from Maple Grove to Minnetonka. The procession will move east on Hwy. 62 through the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. Hai Hai's Christina Nguyen took home the prize for best chef in the Midwest last night. She was one of two Minnesotans nominated in the category. The other was Ann Ahmed of Khâluna. Oro by Nixta, an upscale Mexican establishment co-owned and operated by Kate and Gustavo Romero, was up for the national best new restaurant award. That honor went to Dakar Nola in New Orleans. It's common for presidents to address soon-to-be college graduates. What's especially notable about Clinton's visit is that the president was visiting with Carleton graduates when he learned that Syrian President Hafez Al-Assad had died. Bashar Al-Assad, his son, has been Syria's president ever since. IN OTHER NEWS - [Nearly 6,000 Minnesotans applied for an electric vehicle rebate]( - MPR News

â THE MINNESOTA GOODBYE You've probably seen that "Portlandia" sketch where four Portland motorists arrive at an intersection and politely insist anyone but them make the first move. Well, it appears the dream of the '90s is also alive in Minnesota. I've run into the scenario described in the above X post all too often in the 2½ years I've called this state home. Once, an angry pedestrian even flipped me the bird for refusing to turn left onto the street he was trying to cross when he had the right of way.
