First question: What is your goal for the new year? I want you to think about that for a second. Ok. Second question. With a gun to your head, could you theoretically reach that goal in 31 days? Think about it! Your answer to this question should, of course, be… YES! And I have some data to prove it. - 6 weeks: The time it took for Jeff Bezos to conceive and develop Amazon Prime - 10 days: The time it took Brendan Eich to implement the first prototype of JavaScript - 4 days: The time it took to develop Git (an open source software used by millions) (some more really cool examples of ambitious things built quickly [here]( So… what is the importance of 31 days? Well, it’s (pretty much) how much time is left in 2023! But more importantly, it is the length of next month’s BHAG. What is BHAG? BHAG is our private accountability service we offer to Starter Story members. It stands for: Big. Hairy. Audacious. Goals. How it works: Step 1: Set one very ambitious goal that you want to hit by the end of December. Step 2: Log your progress every day alongside hundreds of other founders. Step 3: Reach the end of December and look back on insane progress. Over the next 31 days, we will hold you accountable. We’re like your accountability buddy. If you don’t hit the (metaphorical) gym every day, we will message you and get you back on track. But really, with BHAG you’ll not only have a team of people holding you accountable, but we’ll also provide support and help you overcome any obstacles. BHAG is something we do every single month at Starter Story, and here are some examples of what went down last month: - Heather closed $130K in new contracts for her agency (Original goal: $100K) - Justin released his book and became an Amazon category bestseller (Original goal: Get 250 preorders for his book) - Tarek attracted the first 50 visitors to his website (there is no goal that’s too small) - Lauren generated $5K for his consulting business in its first month (Original goal: $10K) But you know what? Everyone who participates in BHAG makes incredible progress. Because that’s what happens when you set a big, hairy, audacious goal, and work towards it every day. Even if you don’t reach it, you’ll still get more done than you could ever imagine. Enrollment for BHAG December starts today. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
