As you know, I’m always pushing people to do deep work and get sh*t done. But every time I post about it, someone says, “but Pat you need to work on the *right things.” Ugh. Here’s my position: It's an estimate, but probably 80% of my deep work was spent on the "wrong things.” Tasks that were not important or projects that didn't pan out. But all that matters is that I get 20% right, which is just a function of showing up every day and being able to look back critically, and adapt. Yes, I have seen instances where people get so much tunnel vision that they work on the wrong thing for YEARS. But I think most people are actually smart. And they learn how to adapt to what is/isn't working. Consistency is the first step to greatness – even if it's working on the “wrong” things. The right things are never clear and can only be learned through doing the wrong things. (If it was clear, then everyone would achieve everything they wanted immediately) So today: just get to work. Maybe it’s the right thing. Maybe it’s the wrong thing. I don’t know. But most people don’t do anything. And that’s the true failure. Excited to see what you build. Welcome to Sunday Breakfast! 1.
