Read time: 1 min, 03 sec I will never forget that Friday. I was visiting NYC and riding in the back seat of an Uber. I was smiling, taking in all the sights and sounds, and just thinking "man, life is good 😊". Then suddenly, everything took a turn for the worst... I got an email on my phone. It was Rachel. My accountant. "Pat, I've finally completed your tax return." "Your business owes over $400,000 to the U.S. government this year in taxes, and they are going to withdraw it from your bank account on Monday." I sat there in shock. On Monday, the IRS is going to auto-withdraw hundreds of thousands of dollars from my bank account. What. in. the. actual. f*ck. is happening!? My palms started sweating. My anxiety started kicking in. I was in peak scarcity mindset mode. But then sure enough, it all passed. And I thought about it a bit more. Wait... This is actually kinda... awesome? I'm paying more in taxes than i'd ever made in my life (from a regular job). And I'm doing it through a business I created! How cool is that? That's the dream, right? I'm living the American dream!! Yes, I lost a bit of my innocence that day. But I also realized just how lucky I am. And I don't mind paying taxes that may improve the lives of others who maybe haven't been as lucky as I am. There are only two things certain in life: (1) Death. And (2) Taxes! If you avoid them, you will go to jail. So... you might as well embrace them. I don't want to spend my time thinking about how I can avoid taxes... Instead, I'd rather build businesses that make tons of profit. So I can spend time doing the things I love. That's what life is all about. So let's build baby :) If you're serious about doing something similar, then I think you should check out Starter Story.
