Read this in 1 minute, 41 seconds I HATE this time of the year. Why? Because it's tax season and my accountant will not stop pestering me. Asking me a million questions about invoices, expenses, etc. But yesterday she called me with something different: "Hey Pat… I'm looking at Quickbooks and I think there’s something wrong... Is your revenue *really* this high?" I let her know the number was correct. "Well congrats then... Did you realize that your business grew 3x over last year?" Woah. I took a pause to let that sink in. Then... she told me something even crazier... "Pat, I've never seen anything like this before... but, other than 2022, your business has grown AT LEAST 3X every year since you started!!" [Barkbox Incentive + Expiration Date] Even I couldn’t believe it… This was a proud founder moment for me. But then... it got me thinking: Why did this happen? What's the trend here? Here’s what I believe: –– There are just two things I attribute to growing 3x nearly every year. (Thing 1) Cultivate a 'growth mindset'. When I started out, I thought I’d be lucky just to make back my salary. But as soon as I got a little taste of what it felt like to grow… to see those numbers go up... I wanted more. I had unlocked something I didn’t know was possible: I inserted hard work into the machine, and it spit out money. And every single day I wanted to chase that growth and pour more gas on it. And over time, I figured out which levers to pull so that I could grow year, after year, after year. Every successful founder I know is obsessed with growth. "If you're not growing, you're dying" –– (Thing 2) Study ACTUALLY successful businesses: This is the tactical stuff, the real secret sauce :) At every critical point in the business, I studied and surrounded myself with people more successful than me. I soaked up as MUCH information as possible from real people making real money. For example: When I was doing $500K/year, I did a case study on a solopreneur making nearly $2M/year. I made sure to ask him everything I needed to know, because I wanted to get where he is. And he gave me ALL the answers: • What he did. • How he did it. • Why he did it. • What actually worked. • What to avoid. I read that case study 10 times over, just to make sure I didn't miss ANYTHING. My head was buzzing. I knew exactly what I needed to do next. And I went out an executed the sh*t out of that playbook. I’ve done this 4 or 5 times now. I studied Reddit marketing. I studied email marketing. I studied SEO. I studied YouTube. I studied copywriting and funnels. And I got all of them to f*cking work. It’s simple: 1. Identify successful businesses making real money 2. Proactively study exactly what they do 3. Take extreme action This is the exact formula I follow to this day. And it’s exactly what I want you to do if you want to grow. –– They say you are the average of the 5 people you surround yourself with. [Starter Story]( has 4,000+ case studies – 4,000+ people – who have shared everything about their business: How they got customers How they made money How they pivoted How they scaled Real business.
