                                                                  ?

Dear Clients and Friends, You may have seen that we recently announced plans to acquire the iconic New York architectural masterpiece, [the Breuer Building](, from the Whitney Museum of American Art. Between the architecture, exceptional gallery space, museum provenance and location in the heart of the Upper East Side, this was an unmissable opportunity for Sotheby’s.   We are already looking forward to welcoming you to our new home on Madison Avenue in 2025. In the meantime, our exhibitions will take place at our world class galleries on York Avenue - so far this year we have exhibited over 8,300 works of art and luxury objects. This is just the latest in a series of significant gallery investments that bring us closer to you and elevate your experience as clients. In May we opened new headquarters in [Shanghai]( and this summer we open in central Seoul. In 2024 we will open in the heart of Paris on Rue du Faubourg Saint Honoré, and inaugurate our maison concept at Landmark Chater House in [Hong Kong’s]( Central district. These join exhibition and selling locations opened over the last two years in [Beverly Hills](, [Brussels](, [Cologne](, [Palm Beach](, [Monaco](, [Hamburg]( and [Aspen](. Our global network is one of our greatest assets, and we saw bidding from 135 countries in 2022. The current state of the art and luxury markets So far in 2023 we have held 326 auctions across 52 categories for a total of over $3.2 billion in sales by the end of June. Some highlights include our largest [Chinese Works of Art]( sale in 9 years in Hong Kong in April, our [largest New York Jewelry sale]( ever last week, and the outstanding performance of the [Wolf Family Collection]( in April which sold 42% above high estimate. Our [May marquee art sales]( set 39 artist auction records and sold a robust 85% of the 730 works on offer, of which 86% sold within or above our estimate range. A highlight was the sale of the [Codex Sassoon](, the oldest complete Hebrew Bible dating from the 10th century, which we are thrilled will be on display at the Anu Museum in Israel. Everywhere we are seeing the same trends – strong demand for fresh works that represent the ‘best of the best’ in their category, particular interest in single owner collections, and solid global appetite for works that are well presented with the correct estimates. Looking Ahead Our [London sales]( on the 27th and 28th June are led by [Klimt’s]( extraordinary final masterpiece, Dame mit Fächer, and will be followed by [Old Masters Week]( in early July. The incredible cultural celebration of the life and legacy of [Freddie Mercury]( will take place in London, with a public exhibition like no other in August and a series of auctions in early September. Finally, we are delighted to be giving back to our communities via charitable endeavors this year, from supporting over 35 causes to raising $80 million through [Sotheby’s Impact]( initiatives. Above all, you will see us continue to innovate in support of our mission, which is to promote access and ownership of exceptional art and luxury objects as the world’s leading and most trusted marketplace. We see many opportunities and plans that we look forward to sharing in the months ahead. As always, thank you for your continued support and trust. Sincerely,  Charles F.
