Can Video Games Win An Oscar?

Everyone's favorite online gaming community. You can read more about that below, but it’s interesting to see how the medium has grown so fast since our earliest days stomping mushrooms and collecting rings. Art is something that’s hard to define specifically, but at the very least it’s something made with passion with the goal to provide an emotional or thoughtful experience. Even those of us who think of video games as art usually consider them lower on the scale than great films or books or paintings. But as technology and storytelling get more advanced, how long until video games are considered high art? After all, they offer the same type of experience as a great movie or book, but with the added layer of interactivity. Did Captain Picard think his Holodeck programs were a form of art or mere escapism? Why do we think of such things as mutually exclusive?
