Today's word count: 608 NL & AL East standings heading into key divisional weekend Kyle Ross/USA TODAY Sports The Phillies are in town for a four-game series against the Mets and the Yankees are in Boston for three against the Red Sox. Here are the standings the morning before the storm... NL East:
- Mets: 38-31, --
- Nationals: 36-36, 3.5 GB
- Phillies: 34-37, 5 GB
- Braves: 35-39, 5.5 GB
- Marlins: 31-43, 9.5 GB
AL East:
- Rays: 45-31, --
- Red Sox: 44-31, 0.5 GB
- Yankees: 40-34, 4 GB
- Blue Jays: 38-35, 5.5 GB
- Orioles: 23-52, 21.5 GB
A few notes:
- Remember when the Marlins inexplicably were the only NL East team with a positive run differential? Well ... they still have a +11 mark despite being 12 games under .500. But the Mets are best in the division at +20.
- The Nationals are 9-1 in their last 10, which doesn't bode well for the vultures surrounding Max Scherzer.
- The NL East is the only division where all five teams are within 10 games of each other. The next closest last place team in the other divisions is 13 GB.
This weekend's probables:
- Mets: Taijuan Walker | David Peterson | Jacob deGrom | Jerad Eickhoff
- Yankees: Domingo German | Jordan Montgomery | Gerrit Cole
