Answers at the bottom Your 2020-21 NBA Coach of the Year: Tom Thibodeau SNY graphic If you bet $100 on Tom Thibodeau to win NBA Coach of the Year honors in the preseason, you might have enough money now to go to a future Knicks playoff game.
- He was +3000 to win it in December, and now the award is his, having been [named]( COTY last night for the second time in his career. He's the third Knicks coach to win it, joining Red Holzman and Pat Riley.
By the numbers: He brought the Knicks from a 31.8 winning percentage in 2019-20 to a 56.9 mark this season, plus a playoff berth for the first time since 2012-13. The Knicks' defensive rating this season (107.8) was fourth in the league. Last season it was 112.4, 24th in the league. "We didn't know how good we'd be," said Thibodeau last night. If they were scary before, they look like the '96 Bulls right now. Three things:
- Giannis Antetokounmpo ... [meet]( Blake Griffin.
- The Nets last night led by 17 after one, 24 at the half, 30 after three, and 39 by the end. This game was never close and this series -- billed as an NBA Finals level matchup -- has so far been a wash.
- Brooklyn had five double-digit scorers led by Kevin Durant's 32. In all, 12 Nets scored at least two points.
Also ... two more wins for the Nets and they'll be in their first Eastern Conference Finals since their NBA Finals run in 2003. Game 5: The Isles are one game from pulling the upset @NHLonNBCSports/Twitter [ISLANDERS 5, BRUINS 4]( -- The Islanders went into Boston last night and took Game 5 from the Bruins, at one point leading by as many as three goals. They now have a chance to close out the series at home on Wednesday. Two things:
- The Isles scored three power-play goals, including the tap-in by Kyle Palmieri GIF'd above.
- Boston actually outshot New York, 44-19, a discrepancy mitigated by the Isles scoring on three of four power plays.
