Today's word count: 709 Game 12: Three hours, 32 minutes of frustration Kamil Krzaczynski/USA TODAY Sports CUBS 3, METS 1 -- Mets down two. Bases loaded. Top nine. Two outs. And Francisco Lindor ... grounded out. His coy two-hopper to first last night finished off a long, cold loss for New York in Chicago. Lindor's Mets career is off to a 7-for-41 start. Three things: - Luis Rojas was ejected for the first time as Mets manager. It came after arguing [this]( strike call on Michael Conforto. - Taijuan Walker (3.2 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 6 BB, 7 K) was a combination of unlucky and inaccurate. He got [ejected]( too, though it happened as he was leaving the game. Also: Brandon Nimmo finally had an off night. He went 0-for-5 with 3 K's, including one in the ninth with the bases loaded. Overall, the Mets left 10 men on. Their only run was a [home run]( by J.D. Davis, who had two hits and two errors. Answer at the bottom. Game 16: The sky has been restored to its rightful place Andy Marlin/USA TODAY Sports: Aaron Hicks pinch hit, drew a walk, and scored the game-winning run YANKEES 3, BRAVES 1 -- The scoring troubles persisted, but Mike from Whitestone, John from Yonkers, and Anthony from Jersey City can rest easy for one day, at least. "It's obviously been a tough week for us, a long week for us," said Aaron Boone. "To be able to win a tough game ... there is a lot of satisfaction in that." Two things: - Jameson Taillon (5 IP, 3 H, 1 ER) gave the Yanks a good start when they desperately needed one from anyone but Gerrit Cole. - New York was trailing, 1-0, but tied it on a Gio Urshela [home run]( in the fifth and took the lead with two runs in the eighth. The Yankees are now 3-10 in games they've trailed this year. Also: Aroldis Chapman got the save with a scoreless ninth. He's yet to allow a run this season in five innings. From Tom Thibodeau to Aaron Boone, there was plenty of reaction across the New York sports landscape. Thibodeau: "Obviously we're pleased that justice was served,” he said. “Your heart goes out to the Floyd family because there's nothing you can do to bring him back." Kyrie Irving: "We have a long way to go as a country. Obviously we have some progress being made in terms of conversations being had, justice being served. ... It's a great time to reflect to see how far we've come in the last year." Steve Nash: "I just hope that this is the type of statement by our justice system that gives hope and precedence for these types of verdicts to be the norm." Boone: "In my eyes, it looks like justice was served. Hopefully from this, there becomes a little bit of closure, and hopefully continued progress." Also: The [Mets]( [Nets]( [Rangers/Knicks]( and [Devils]( all released statements following the verdict. Speed round! Knicks, Nets win; Devils score 6 in one period ... and lose @YESNetwork/Twitter [KNICKS 109, HORNETS 97]( -- With their win last night, the Knicks have their first seven-game winning streak since the Charles Woodson, Carmelo Anthony, J.R. Smith era. In victory, RJ Barrett broke out of his recent slump with a 24-point game on 17 shots. Overall, the Knicks made 18 three-pointers. [NETS 134, PELICANS 129]( -- Brooklyn outdueled New Orleans last night, thanks in small part to Jeff Green's poster above (That's a 34-year-old). The important news yesterday, though, was that James Harden suffered a "[setback]( with his hamstring injury and is out indefinitely. [PENGUINS 7, DEVILS 6]( -- The Devils did something remarkable last night: They scored six goals in the third period -- and lost. The Penguins, who entered the final period winning, 6-0, became the first team ever in the 100-plus-year history of the NHL to win a game despite being outscored by five in the third period.
