Yamamoto is headed to the minors, Carlos Carrasco is hurt, and David Peterson appears to be in line for the fourth starter spot. That leaves Joey Lucchesi as the presumptive fifth starter entering the season.
- Lucchesi, who grew up in Newark (California), pitched only 5.2 innings last year as he spent most of the season at the Padres' alternate site, but has a 4.21 ERA in 58 career starts.
2. CARDINALS 3, METS 0 -- St. Louis beat the Mets, who were blanked for the first time since the first game of the spring. One thing:
