- [BNNY]( Why it's important to keep an eye on Pete Alonso's spring numbers Today's word count: 799 words WFAN's 'Carton & Roberts' is coming to SNY Courtesy of Entercom/WFAN 101.9 FM/660 AM SNY announced a simulcast partnership yesterday that will bring WFAN's 'Carton & Roberts' to TV starting in May. Details [here](. Alonso slugs a grand slam, Boone leaves the hospital, and other Thursday notes Jim Rassol/USA Today 1. METS 8, NATIONALS 4 -- The Mets pulled back to .500 on the spring with three home runs and a good first start from David Peterson. Three things:
- Peterson's line: Two innings, one hit, no runs, 26 pitches, eight batters faced. (Luis Rojas [spoke]( on Thursday about what he's looking for in his fifth starter, for which Peterson is a candidate).
- Home run roundup: Brandon Nimmo | [Pete Alonso]( (more in section two) | Jake Hager (who turned 28 yesterday)
- Trevor May pitched a scoreless inning in his Mets debut, while Aaron Loup and Jeurys Familia (though it took 31 pitches) did the same.
[Takeaways]( including yesterday's prospect roundup. Weekend probables:
- Friday: No game
- Saturday: Jacob deGrom
- Sunday: TBD
2. Aaron Boone was released from the hospital on Thursday after surgery to receive a pacemaker on Wednesday. Bench coach Carlos Mendoza, filling in for Boone, had this to say yesterday about the Yankees manager: âHis first question was, âHowâd the boys look?â I was like, âNo, no. How are you feeling?â And he was like, âI feel great. I can already tell the difference. So tell me how the day went.' It just tells you what kind of leader he is." 3. PHILLIES 15, YANKEES 0 -- It's a good thing these games don't count, huh? Three things:
- The true focus for the Yankees was how Deivi Garcia managed in his first spring training start. The answer was eh: Two innings, two runs on two home runs, three K's.
- The bulk of the other Phillies runs were allowed by Asher Wojciechowski and Albert Abreu, who were tagged for four earned each.
- The Yankees had only three hits: A single each by Ryan LaMarre and Josh Breaux, and a double by Tyler Wade.
[Takeaways]( Weekend probables:
- Friday: Domingo German
- Saturday: Gerrit Cole
- Sunday: TBD

The spring training highlight of the day goes to ... MLB/Twitter ... Pete Alonso, who clubbed a grand slam yesterday that ended up being a game-winner. It was special, said Alonso, [because of who was attendance]( âBig shoutout -- happy birthday mom," he said after breaking down the home run. "Glad I could get a birthday bomb for ya. ... It's really nice to have my parents here at the games."
([According]( to Newsday's Tim Healey, Alonso also homered on his mom's birthday two years ago. A good omen, perhaps?) PS ... It was a great struggle not to award the highlight of the day to either Dom Smith, who [snagged]( a foul grounder while speaking with the broadcast crew, [or this fan]( who thought he caught a home run ball, but, ultimately, did not. Game 37: The Knicks enter the break above .500 and hopeful Wendell CruzUSA Today KNICKS 114, PISTONS 104 -- The Knicks are doing what playoff teams do: Taking care of business against the bad teams. They did so last night in an easy win over Detroit, and head into the All-Star break with a 19-18 record. Three things:
- It's impossible to over-praise the Knicks for the first half of their season. (Even Tom Thibodeau is [forcing]( a smile these days.) For reference, their over/under win total entering the season was 21.5. They've almost reached that through 37 games.
- Julius Randle (27 points, 16 rebounds, seven assists) had another All-Star-worthy game. He nearly got a fourth-quarter break, but Thibodeau put him back in after the Pistons went on a mini run to make the game semi-close.
- Randle entered the game averaging 36.6 minutes per game (third in the league), and played 42 last night. Nerlens Noel played a season-high 42 minutes, scoring 12 points with 11 rebounds. He's averaged 39.5 MPG over the last four games.

The Rangers (9-9-3) blew out the Devils (7-10-2) last night, 6-1, in Newark behind a hat trick from Chris Kreider -- his second of the season. Marring the win, though, was that Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin [left]( in the third period with a lower-body injury. The Islanders (13-6-4) waltzed to an easy win over the Sabres last night, 5-2. They've now won 6 of 9, and six in a row if you don't count all the times they've been subjected to the Penguins. 2. Golden Tate was released on Wednesday by the Giants. How the front office will replace him ... is the de facto question the team has faced since trading Odell Beckham Jr., wrote SNY's Ralph Vacchiano [yesterday](. 3. The women's Big East conference tournament begins today. The UConn women are the No. 1 seed, and will play the winner of today's matchup between No. 9 Xavier vs. No. 8 St. John's on Saturday at noon.
