In a three-way trade between the Mets, Red Sox and Royals agreed upon last night, the Mets acquired prospect Khalil Lee from Kansas City in exchange for prospect Josh Winckowski, who is headed to Boston, and a player to be named later. Winckowski was acquired in the trade for Steven Matz.
- Lee, a 22-year-old base-stealing outfielder, was the No. 8 prospect in the Royals' system, according to MLB.com.

- Lowrie, 37, was technically with the Mets from 2019-20, but played only nine games in New York in '19 and none last year. He had his best years with Oakland, making an All-Star Game in 2018.

New York City arenas given green light to host fans starting Feb. 23 USA Today Gov. Cuomo announced that arenas in New York City will begin [allowing]( fans at a 10 percent capacity starting on Feb. 23. A few specifics on the announcement:
- A negative PCR test within 72 hours of the game will be required.
- All event-goers must wear face masks/coverings.
- All seats will be assigned and will adhere to social distancing guidelines.
In the short-term, this means Barclays Center can open up to fans on Feb. 23 for the Nets' game against the Kings, and Madison Square Garden can open the same night when the Knicks host the Warriors. Rangers fan will be able to see their team live on the 26th against the Bruins. In the more long-term, this is likely good news for Mets and Yankees fans willing to endure April northeastern nights. Here was the Mets' statement to the news: "The New York Mets thank Governor Cuomo for today's announcement. It's an encouraging first step toward us potentially welcoming fans back to Citi Field. We look forward to working with government officials to ensure that the return to the ballpark is safe and convenient for our fans."

Game 27: Defense, for a change, gives the Nets the win Andy Marlin/USA Today NETS 104, PACERS 94 -- Brooklyn held Indiana to 30 first-half points last night and cruise-controlled to a win, snapping a three-game losing streak. Three things from the game:
- The Nets' defense held their opponent under 100 points for only the fifth time this season. The Pacers' 95 is the second-lowest output against Brooklyn on the season. Conversely, the 104 points scored for the Nets tied their third-lowest scoring number of the year. Brooklyn is now 2-4 when scoring fewer than 110 points.
- Kyrie Irving was the offensive star, scoring 35 points on 17 shots, going 17-of-17 from the free throw line.
- Landry Shamet, who was shaky to start the season, is shooting 42.8 percent from three (18-of-42) over his last seven games. He was 2-for-5 from deep last night. Three more Wednesday night news items @NHLonNBCSports/Twitter 1. The Rangers lost to the Bruins, 3-2, on a game-winner by Brad Marchand 32 seconds into overtime. New York (4-5-3), which tied the game at two on a third-quarter goal by Kevin Rooney, is now 1-3 in games decided by overtime or shootout. 2. Both UConn teams were in action last night.
- The men's team, playing without leading scorer James Bouknight, lost to Providence (10-10), 70-59. The Huskies (8-5) were outscored by 12 points in the second half.
- The women's team [beat up on Seton Hall for a 70-49 win]( preventing a letdown game after beating No. 1 South Carolina on Monday night.
3. No. 25 Rutgers lost to No. 15 Iowa on the road, 79-66, snapping a four-game winning streak that had clawed the Scarlet Knights back into the AP Top 25. Rutgers trailed by 11 at the half and cut it down to six in the second half, but never got closer.
