- [BNNY]( Honest opinions of the Mets potentially signing Trevor Bauer Today's word count: 775 words What might Sam Darnold's trade value be if the Jets move on? Winslow Townson/USA Today The Jets could go several different routes at quarterback for the 2021 season.
- There's the draft route (BYU's Zach Wilson, Ohio State's Justin Fields, or North Dakota State's Trey Lance).
- There's the disgruntled star route (Houston's Deshaun Watson, Detroit's Matt Stafford, or even Green Bay's Aaron Rodgers).
- There's the stay-put option, if the Jets decide Sam Darnold plus draft picks is the most viable way to go.
(FWIW, ESPN's Mel Kiper has the Jets [taking]( Heisman winner DeVonta Smith at No. 2 in his first mock draft, making the argument for keeping Darnold: "Do the Jets really want to move on from him and watch him thrive elsewhere?") If the Jets decide to go the first or second route, what could they get for Darnold (assuming he doesn't get traded for someone like Watson)? Here's what SNY's Ralph Vacchiano wrote yesterday on the topic: "If they decide to move on from Darnold, they might not be able to trade him for as much as they hoped. Yes, they could put him in a package for Watson, but a stand-alone deal could be much more difficult to find. The assumption around the NFL was the Jets could get at least what the Cardinals got from Miami for Josh Rosen in 2019 -- a second-round pick."

- [Here's how the Giants can clear salary cap space for the 2021 season]( Trivia time Who has the most playoff wins by a QB in Jets history? Answer at the bottom. The Mets have made an offer to free agent Trevor Bauer Meg Vogel/USA Today: A strikeout-heavy day for Trevor Bauer last season The link between the Mets and Trevor Bauer has heated up over the last several days, reaching the point yesterday where SNY's Andy Martino [reported]( the team has made an offer to the free agent starting pitcher.
- The offer did not eclipse the AAV of Gerrit Cole's record-breaking $36 million per season contract that Bauer has reportedly been seeking, according to Martino.
Should the Mets end up signing Bauer, it'll create a giant splash, and it will also almost certainly bring them over the $210 million luxury tax threshold. The Knicks also scored 35 points in the second half and lost by 14. GIF'd above: Two of Austin Rivers' 25 first-half points. He finished the game with ... 25 points. Three more things:
- The Knicks were outscored by 27 in the second half, and only had 13 points in the fourth quarter.

Also: The Knicks' broadcast at one point last night made reference to Harthorne Wingo, a role player for New York in the '70s who died on Saturday.
- Wingo's path to the NBA was out of a movie: He was spotted by scouts while playing at Rucker Park, which he turned into a roster spot in the defunct Eastern League, which eventually led to a role with the Knicks' '73 title team. Read more about him [here](.

- [Andrew Yang on his Knicks fandom: "When the Knicks dumped Jeremy Lin that was the last straw for me"]( Last night in tri-state hockey: Not so good Geoff Burke/USA Today All three New York/New Jersey hockey teams were in action last night, all with a 7 p.m. puck drop, all with a loss:
- The Islanders ... lost to the Capitals, 3-2, for their second-straight loss. It was 2-2 until Washington's Justin Schultz's [game-winner]( with 27 seconds left.
- The Rangers ... lost to the Sabres, 3-2, to fall to 1-4-1 on the season. New York was up, 2-1, after the first period, but allowed two goals in the second period in the span of 88 seconds.
- The Devils ... spared us all the drama by losing to the Flyers, 5-3, with three goals in the third period by Philadelphia proving the difference.
So far, the Devils (3-2-1) have been the surprise among the three teams, while the Rangers' slow start at 1-4-1 is even more alarming in a 56-game season. The New York Minute - [READ]( Eli Manning says the Giants' two Super Bowl wins "still bothers" Tom Brady.
