- [BNNY]( Was signing George Springer really what the Mets needed in the long term? Today's word count: 763 words With George Springer in Toronto, what's next for the Mets? Dale Zanine/USA Today Center fielder George Springer is headed to Toronto on a six-year, $150 million deal, which ended up being about $25 million more than the Mets offered, according to reports. Once thought to be the possible final piece of a fruitful offseason, New York now has to consider other options.
- Would it have been nice to add Springer to this lineup? Yes.
- Is it the end of the world? Probably not.
Yesterday on SNY.tv, we broke down why Springer going to Toronto might actually be a blessing in disguise (more money for a certain current Mets outfielder), and who might fill the void in center field (perhaps the Gold-Glover above?). To read, click [here](. Also on SNY.tv:
- [With George Springer headed to Toronto, how does the rest of the AL East stack up?]( Trivia time Who is the last Met to win a Gold Glove award? Answer at the bottom. What color car Deshaun Watson should get ... and other related news Mike Dinovo/USA Today The Deshaun Watson rumor mill is cranking faster than an MTA Bus at 2 a.m. Let's get you caught up on yesterday's news, which includes a few pro-Jet items. 1. Here's what Richard Sherman [said]( on the Cris Collinsworth Podcast:* "If I was Deshaun, I would get out of there as quickly as possible. I'd head to New York. ... The Jets. It would be the most beautiful (situation). A decent offensive line. They'd have to find threats. They'd have to find some offensive weapons. But I think there would be a lot more people excited to be there."
(For some context, Sherman was a [huge fan]( of the Jets' head coach hire, having been coached by Robert Saleh in San Francisco). 2. In a video [posted]( to Instagram on Jan. 19, which surfaced on Twitter yesterday, Watson's agent, David Mulugheta, suggested Watson should paint his new car "Jet green." 3. According to [reporting]( by ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, a trade for Watson could require "at least three first-round picks." The Jets have four first-rounders in the next two drafts, including the second overall pick in this QB-heavy draft. *It's official: everyone has a podcast. On SNY.tv:
- [How soon could Jets become win-now team if they acquire Deshaun Watson?]( Game 16: Collin Sexton spoils the Big Three's debut @Cavs/Twitter CAVALIERS 147, NETS 135 -- In an alternate universe, Collin Sexton could have ended up on the Nets. In this universe, he scored 42 points -- including his team's final 20 points -- to spoil the debut of Brooklyn's Big Three last night. GIF'd above: A desperation three-pointer by Sexton -- who was drafted by Cleveland with the pick the Celtics traded for Kyrie Irving, which originally belonged to the Nets -- which sent the game to double overtime. Sexton scored 22 points over both overtimes. Three more things:
- Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant and James Harden had 37, 38 and 21 points, respectively. A 96-point performance by the three All-Stars in a game against the Cavaliers -- and the Nets lose. Didn't see that coming.
- Brooklyn trailed by 12 points heading into the fourth quarter, and had a chance to win at the end of regulation, but Irving was called for an offensive foul with 1.5 seconds left, which was challenged and overturned and led to a tip ball at halfcourt, which killed a chance at a game-winner.
- Harden finished with 12 assists (and 10 rebounds). Even with Irving (three assists) in the mix, Harden served as the main facilitator.

- [Takeaways from the Nets' 147-135 loss to the Cavs]( By the numbers Ken Blaze/USA Today 105 vs. 104.7 The people calling for Tom Thibodeau to start Immanuel Quickley over Elfrid Payton may be right, but the two have a nearly identical offensive rating,* and Payton has a better net rating.** Quickley's OR is 105 while Payton's is 104.7, while Payton's NR is minus-1.8 and Quickley's is minus-3.7. 14-9 UConn's WBB plays Tennessee tonight in its off-again, on-again rivalry matchup. The Huskies hold a 14-9 advantage in the all-time series, and won the last meeting. 20.7 Knicks guard Alec Burks, who averaged 20.7 points through the first three games this season but hasn't played since because of injury, is probable tonight against the Warriors. With Austin Rivers doubtful for the game, Burks would be a needed boost to the Knicks' offense. *Offensive rating = How many points a team scores per 100 possessions while that player is on the court. **Net rating = How many points better or worse a team is with that player on the court.
