Game 8: The Giants' dominance against Washington continues NFL/Twitter GIANTS 23, FOOTBALL TEAM 20 -- Daring to blow a 17-point lead, the Giants held off a late push by Washington on Sunday for their second win of the season. Their last three wins dating back to 2019 have come against the Football Team. GIF'd above: Daniel Jones' connection to Evan Engram, which served to show the absolute talent each young player sometimes shows. Three things:
- Jones (23-of-34, 212 yards, one TD) had his second turnover-free game in 22 career tries. The other was against Washington, of course.
- The Giants' defense forced five turnovers, most in a game since 2014. Three came as INTs of Alex Smith, who replaced an injured Kyle Allen.
- The final TO was [an INT]( by Logan Ryan, whose wife, Ashley, had emergency surgery in Florida last week due to an unexpected ectopic pregnancy. "She just said, ‘Bring a ball home for me and the kids,’ and I was able to do that," Logan [said](.
Also: Golden Tate was benched yesterday. It's [fair to wonder]( if his days with the Giants are over. On SNY.tv:

--------------------------------------------------------------- DAILY TRIVIA When is the last time the Giants won the NFC East? 3. The state of the NFC East NFL/Twitter The standings:
- Eagles, 3-4-1
- Football Team, 2-6
- Cowboys, 2-7
- Giants, 2-7
The Giants are only two games out, which makes you think of all the missed opportunities they've had recently. As a whole, the division is a minus-191 in net points and none of the four teams are in the positive. The play above ... just about sums it up. The playoff odds, [via 538](
- Eagles: 71 percent
- Washington: 16 percent
- Giants: 7 percent
- Cowboys: 6 percent
The Giants ... are cautiously feeling themselves after yesterday's win. [Here]( what Leonard Williams said after the game:
- “Our record doesn’t show the type of talent and team we do have. I think Coach Judge has turned this place around. I’ve also been on teams where we’ve had a one-win record by now and you could feel the energy of the team start to drop. I feel like that hasn’t happened once here.” --------------------------------------------------------------- 4. The Jets look to avoid a franchise low tonight Jasen Vinlove/USA Today The Jets' shot at avoiding a franchise-worst 0-9 start will go on tonight without Sam Darnold, who [will miss]( his third game of the 2020 season. Here are four links to get you ready for tonight:
- Starter Joe Flacco will [at least have]( Jamison Crowder and Breshad Perriman to throw to.
- Two of the Patriots' best defensive players [will be out]( for the game.
- PointsBet [has the Jets]( as 9.5-point underdogs.
- Not game related, but Trevor Lawrence got [some J-E-T-S chants]( this weekend. --------------------------------------------------------------- 5. Three more weekend news items Joshua A. Bickel/USA Today 1. Rutgers football lost to now-No. 2 Ohio State on Saturday night, 49-27. But there is good news:
- The Scarlet Knights covered the spread (+38) easily, and the 22-point loss is the best result they've ever had against the Buckeyes. The previous was 35 last year.
- Rutgers had [an inventive return]( play to start the game, which the Cowboys just happened to [also try]( on Sunday.
2. The MLS regular season wrapped up this weekend, with NYCFC beating Chicago on Sunday, 4-3, and the Red Bulls beating Toronto FC, 2-1.
- Both New York teams made the playoffs and avoided playing in the Eastern Conference play-in round; NYCFC is a fifth seed and will play No. 4 Orlando City SC. The No. 6 Red Bulls will play No. 3 Columbus.
- All first-round games will be between Nov. 21 and 24, though the precise schedule hasn't been released.
3. The Yankees on Saturday [announced]( a large restructuring of their minor league system.
