For now, the Jets and Giants are committed to their QBs Chris Pedota/USA Today The Jets and Giants are similar in two big ways: - They each have poor records. - They each have quarterbacks they hope can turn into franchise quarterbacks, who aren't performing well in 2020. For both teams, the shot at Trevor Lawrence looms as a potential deal-breaker. (The Jets are currently on pace for the No. 1 pick; the Giants are tied the second worst record in the league.) Lawrence-to-the-Jets has been in the zeitgeist for weeks, but some doubts about Jones' long-term picture with the Giants have recently crept in as well, [including from]( SNY's Ralph Vacchiano. Still, both teams backed their current QBs on Tuesday. Here's Joe Judge, who was asked if he's considering benching Jones: - "No." (Seriously, that's all [he said]( Here's Joe Douglas, who was asked about Darnold's future with the team: - "My thoughts on Sam are the same now as they were then. Sam's an ultra talented quarterback. I really can't say enough about his grit and his toughness. Ultimately, I've got to do a better job of putting talent around Sam." (Douglas held an extended media availability on Tuesday and touched on plenty of topics, including Adam Gase's future and regrets about Robby Anderson. The Rangers' Isiah Kiner-Falefa took home the award instead of Urshela. (The award was decided by managers and coaches.) FWIW, Kiner-Falefa [was better]( by OAA (outs above average) by a four to negative one margin, and by defensive runs saved by an eight to six margin. By the numbers Vincent Carchietta/USA Today +7, +3 As of Tuesday night, the Giants were three-point underdogs against the Football Team, and the Jets were seven-point underdogs against the Patriots, whom they play on Monday. On a positive note, the Jets are 0-8 and only projected to lose to the Patriots by a touchdown. -38 Against Ohio State this coming Saturday, Rutgers is currently a 38-point underdog. That might sound bad ... but, last year, the Scarlet Knights were 51-point underdogs. Progress, people. 40.2, 61.8 In six games, Sam Darnold's QBR is a concerning 40.2, 30th among qualifying quarterbacks. Daniel Jones' is 61.8, 21st among qualifiers. In 2019, Darnold's was 45.6. $500 million to $1 billion The NBA believes it could lose between one billion to a half-billion dollars if it doesn't start the 2020-21 season by this December, ESPN [reported]( on Monday. 19 years We'll spare you the GIF, but today is the 19-year anniversary of the Diamondbacks' 3-2 Game 7 win over the Yankees to claim the 2001 World Series. --------------------------------------------------------------- 6.
