- [Will the Mets make one big splash in free agency?]( --------------------------------------------------------------- 1. The argument for and against the Mets signing Trevor Bauer SNY graphic Trevor Bauer will in all likelihood win the 2020 Cy Young award.
- For the Mets, signing him as a free agent would mean a one-two punch of the National League's last three Cy Young winners.
But would a big contract for Bauer, nearly 30, be worth it?
- On one hand, he had [a 2020 season]( that bordered on all-time great.
- On the other, from 2015-19, he was a pitcher with a 3.96 ERA and a 1.266 WHIP.
Yesterday on SNY, we laid out the case for and against the mercurial pitcher, whom the Mets now have the bandwidth to chase. You can read in full [here](. On SNY.tv:

- [The pros and cons of the Mets signing free agent George Springer]( --------------------------------------------------------------- 2. For now, the Jets and Giants are committed to their QBs Chris Pedota/USA Today The Jets and Giants are similar in two big ways:
- They each have poor records.
- They each have quarterbacks they hope can turn into franchise quarterbacks, who aren't performing well in 2020.
For both teams, the shot at Trevor Lawrence looms as a potential deal-breaker. (The Jets are currently on pace for the No. 1 pick; the Giants are tied the second worst record in the league.) Lawrence-to-the-Jets has been in the zeitgeist for weeks, but some doubts about Jones' long-term picture with the Giants have recently crept in as well, [including from]( SNY's Ralph Vacchiano. Still, both teams backed their current QBs on Tuesday. Here's Joe Judge, who was asked if he's considering benching Jones:
- "No."
(Seriously, that's all [he said]( Here's Joe Douglas, who was asked about Darnold's future with the team:
- "My thoughts on Sam are the same now as they were then. Sam's an ultra talented quarterback. I really can't say enough about his grit and his toughness. Ultimately, I've got to do a better job of putting talent around Sam."
(Douglas held an extended media availability on Tuesday and touched on plenty of topics, including Adam Gase's future and regrets about Robby Anderson. Read [here]( On SNY.tv: [The Daniel Jones-Darius Slayton connection was supposed to be the key to the Giants offense -- what happened?](

- Neither of New York's two finalists -- the Yankees' Gio Urshela and Clint Frazier -- won for his respective position.
- Frazier's campaign in right field always felt like a longshot, but there was a strong argument for Urshela at third base.
The Rangers' Isiah Kiner-Falefa took home the award instead of Urshela. (The award was decided by managers and coaches.) FWIW, Kiner-Falefa [was better]( by OAA (outs above average) by a four to negative one margin, and by defensive runs saved by an eight to six margin. He also edged Urshela in defensive bWAR, 1.3 to .7. [Here]( the full list of winners.
