DAILY TRIVIA
Which team was the last below .500 squad to make the NFL playoffs?
2. Monday's Jets and Giants headlines
SNY graphic
1. Le'Veon Bell has been a trooper in his time with Jets, fruitful partnership be darned. But now -- with the Jets likely to cut him before next season starts -- might be the time to trade him, [wrote]( SNY's Ralph Vacchiano yesterday:
- "According to several team sources, his frustration does seem to be reaching a boiling point. And as the Jets learned with the Jamal Adams mess last season, a spat with a star player doesn’t help anyone in the middle of a losing year."
Bell [liked several tweets]( suggesting he should be traded after the Jets' Sunday loss, which Adam Gase [responded to]( on Monday.
2. Evan Engram, who scored the Giants' first touchdown on offense since Week 2 on Sunday, [sounded off]( on Monday on the strain of starting a season 0-5:
- "Definitely disappointed, definitely pissed off. We fought our butts off yesterday and didn't come up on the winning end, so we're pissed off and we're hungry.
- "We're going to get right back to work to try and go get one."
3. Gase [gave a sort-of update]( Monday on Jets wide receiver Chris Hogan, who was carted off the field during Sunday's game.
- "Obviously, we've got to do the whole MRI situation so we can figure out where he's at. Didn't look good, but we'll kind of see what happens there."
Gase described the injury in his football vernacular as "an ankle."
4. On the topic of injuries, the Giants confirmed the worst case scenario for linebacker Lorenzo Carter, [who ruptured]( his Achilles tendon against the Cowboys. He had one sack and four tackles for loss before his season-ending injury.

3. NFC and AFC East standings through Week 5
AFC East:
- Bills, 4-0*
- Patriots, 2-2**
- Dolphins, 2-3
- Jets, 0-5
NFC East:
- Cowboys, 2-3
- Eagles, 1-3-1
- Football Team, 1-4
- Giants, 0-5
FYI: 538's [playoff projections]( give the Jets a less than one percent chance at the postseason, and the Giants a five percent chance. It would have been more interesting had the Giants held on to beat Dallas on Sunday.
*The Bills play the Titans, who haven't played since Sept. 27, tonight.
**The Patriots, who have had several outbreaks of COVID-19, are not playing this week. They next play Oct. 18 against Denver.

4. 10/13/2001: Jeter's intuition saves the Yankees
MLB/YouTube
On this day 19 years ago, Derek Jeter made his iconic flip play to nab Jeremy Giambi at the plate.
The setup: Game 3 of the 2001 ALDS in Oakland, tied at a game each. Seventh inning, 1-0, Yankees. Terrance Long hits a double down the line. Giambi tries to score from first. Jeter scoots from short to intercept a poor throw, flipping it to Jorge Posada for the out at home.
- "I say this respectfully, but the Giambi family is not very fast," Jeter [said]( during a retrospect of the play earlier this year. "I knew we had an opportunity to get him at the plate."
Also: Not to be a buzzkill, but ... imagine what the aftermath of this play -- with all the camera angles and rule changes -- would look like in 2020?
