1. The Mets' Sunday in one GIF
MLB/YouTube
Of all the meltdowns, yesterday afternoon's first game of the Subway Series doubleheader was perhaps the Metsiest.
- Entering that fateful seventh inning, which included an error, a lost challenge, two mound visits, a pitching change and, finally, Aaron Hicks' game-tying home run, the Mets had a 7-2 lead and [a 98.2 percent]( chance of winning.
(They lost, 8-7, thanks in part to the GIF above.)
Rather than (further) rehash, here are five positives for Mets fans to carry with them into this afternoon's game.
- Robinson Cano had [five hits]( in the five Yankees-Mets games, and is hitting .369 with a 1.014 OPS.
- Rick Porcello (five innings, two runs) and Seth Lugo (3.2 innings, one run) were both bright spots as starters yesterday.
- As dismal (for Mets fans and great for Yankees fans) as Sunday was, Friday was a role reversal, and included something that hadn't happened in 121 years (more on that below).
- The Mets, [according]( to FanGraphs, still have a 56.3 percent chance at making the playoffs.
- Jacob deGrom is pitching today.

2. This weekend's Subway Series, by the numbers
Brad Penner/USA Today
1899
Amed Rosario's walk-off home run on Friday off of Aroldis Chapman was the first walk-off home run by a visiting player in a game since 1899, when Ed McKean of the St. Louis Perfectos (now the Cardinals) did so against the long gone Cleveland Spiders. The game was a make up of a scheduled home game for the Mets.
- "I was a little confused," confessed Chapman after the game. That's 2020, Aroldis.
6 innings, 6 Ks
Yankees pitcher Deivi Garcia made his MLB debut yesterday, striking out six over six innings. His one allowed run was unearned.
- "I wasn't nervous," he said through an interpreter after the game.
6 players
The five-run seventh inning aside, the Yankees' lineup scored only 17 runs in five weekend games. Of the 10 New York players with 50-plus at-bats, six are batting worse than .240, including Gary Sanchez (.134) -- who did hit [a game-winning]( grand slam Sunday -- and Brett Gardner (.176).

3. The Islanders are a game away from advancing
Islanders/Twitter
ISLANDERS 3, FLYERS 2 -- The Islanders, who would not have qualified for the playoffs in a regular 16-team postseason, are now a win away from the Eastern Conference Finals.
- They beat the Flyers on Saturday, 3-1, to take a 2-1 lead.
- They beat the Flyers on Sunday, 3-2, to take a 3-1 series lead.
GIF'd above: Brock Nelson's perfectly-placed goal, which gave the Isles a 1-0 lead on Sunday. He scored twice, and Jean-Gabriel Pageau added the other.
- This was the first back-to-back for New York; they were supposed to play one last week, but the multi-sport protest postponed it.
Also: The Islanders haven't made the conference finals since 1993. Should they finish off the Flyers, their likely opponent would be Tampa Bay, who owns a 3-1 lead over the Bruins in the other second round series.
