1. Wednesday's sights and sounds, plus one very important injury update
Brad Penner/USA Today
QUEENS -- Jacob deGrom pitched only one inning in Tuesday's sim game and left with what the Mets called "back tightness."
On Wednesday, [his MRI revealed]( good news: Nothing serious, day-to-day. Luis Rojas said it was too early to tell if he'd be ready for Opening Day.
THE BRONX -- Aaron Judge, stiff neck and all, returned to the Yankees' lineup for yesterday's sim game.
- What he said: “No issues, no nothing. I’m still not 100 percent, but good enough to play, so I was out there just to get some at-bats and see how it felt. So, we’re all good.”
- What he did: [Hit a home run](.
QUEENS -- [Here]( Yoenis Cespedes taking some hacks. [Here]( Robinson Cano showing off the quick hands.
THE BRONX -- Masahiro Tanaka doesn't know if he'll be ready by his first scheduled start. [Here]( a stab at who might replace him, should the concussion he suffered earlier this month keep him out of the rotation for any amount of time.
QUEENS -- David Peterson, a Mets prospect who pitched 2.1 innings in yesterday's sim game, [spoke via Zoom]( about the all-important summons he might receive:
- "I'm ready when that call comes in."

DAILY TRIVIA
Who has the most Hat Tricks in Islanders history?
2. The V-Mets are 10 wins from a World Series
SNY/Twitter
The context behind that grandiose statement: With real baseball approaching, we simmed the rest of the V-Mets' season to Game 1 of the NLDS, which means two things:
- The V-Mets went 95-67 and won the NL East.
- They beat the Cubs last night in Game 1 at V-Citi Field, 5-3.

3. By the numbers, Rangers and Islanders edition
Jerome Miron/USA Today: Artemi Panarin
(Reminder: The NHL season [is returning]( on Aug. 1.)
Plus-36
Artemi Panarin is second in the NHL with a plus-36 plus-minus this season. He's also tied for second in assists (63) and first in even strength points (71). Any big run for the Rangers starts with him.
+110; -122
The Rangers are +110 (a $100 bet wins $110) in their best-of-five against the Hurricanes, making them a slight underdog. The Islanders are -122 (bet $122 to win $100) against the Panthers, making them the slight favorite. (All numbers according to [DraftKings](
+4,000; +4,300
Both New York teams are long shots to win the Stanley Cup: +4,000 for the Rangers, +4,300 for the Islanders.
2-1
The Rangers' blue team beat the Rangers' white team yesterday in a scrimmage. Goalie No. 1 Igor Shesterkin played well, putting more distance between him and Henrik Lundqvist and Alex Georgiev.
3-0
FWIW, the Islanders went 3-0 against the Panthers this season (one win by shootout), outscoring them by an aggregate score of 8-4.

4. Highlights from the archive
[All Highlights](
This week's Highlights from the archive theme: Playoff moments from the 2000s.
Today's game: Giants vs. Buccaneers in the 2007-08 Wild Card round, which the Giants won, 24-14.
GIF'd above: A second quarter TD pass from Eli Manning to Brandon Jacobs, which also serves as a reminder of how massive Jacobs was.
The game's importance: It was the least flashy game of the Giants' postseason, but it was a playoff win on the road against a (9-7) division winner, and it ignited arguably the least likely Super Bowl run in NFL history.
FYI: New York won four playoff games that year, with the first three all coming on the road in Tampa, Irving, Tx. and Green Bay. They also trailed both Dallas and New England in the fourth quarter, and had to beat the Packers in overtime.
