1. Kyrie Irving is the leading voice among players second-guessing the Orlando plan
Tommy Gilligan/USA Today
On Friday night, during a conference call with "[80 or so]( NBA players, concerns were expressed over the July 30 restart to the NBA season, which would happen in an isolated environment in Orlando, Fl.
Among the topics of hesitation: The ongoing pandemic; life in the Disney World bubble; and the context of a largely African-American league playing basketball in the midst of nationwide protests against racial injustice.
[According]( to SNY's Ian Begley's source, "Kyrie Irving was among the driving forces behind Friday's call."
Irving, who is a Vice President of the NBAPA, has been reported to have said a handful of things on the call, including:
- "I don't support going into Orlando. I'm not with the systematic racism and the bullshit. Something smells a little fishy." ([Shams Charania](
- "There’s only 20 guys actually getting paid, and I’m part of that. Let’s not pretend there’s not a tiered system purposely to divide all of us.”([Jeff Goodman](
In the span of a few days, the NBA's plan has gone from looking like a done deal a week or so ago -- Irving [at one point]( was hoping to be included in the Nets' Orlando brigade -- to where it is now: In a slight state of uncertainty.
[Here's]( ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski's sourced takeaway after Friday's call:
- "Even after the call, there was still a belief within the league that the NBA would have the players' support it needed to resume the season, but no one could be as sure as they seemed to be a mere week ago."

2. Three more things from this weekend
Orlando Ramirez/USA Today
1. Martino: No sign-stealing allegations against Yanks in sealed letter
On Friday, a judge ruled a letter sent by Rob Manfred to the Yankees regarding MLB's 2017 sign-stealing investigation should be unsealed, [according]( to a report from The Athletic.
Though the Yankees did not want it unsealed because it would cause "significant reputational injury," the letter does not allege sign-stealing by the Yankees, SNY's Andy Martino reported on Saturday. Read his sourced story [here](.
2. Smith shares his thoughts on racial injustice
In an Instagram post on Sunday, Dom Smith put many of his thoughts on America's racial climate and civil unrest into words:
- "I don't want to fear being stopped by a police officer or looked down because of my skin color! It shouldn't have taken the death of so many innocent men and women for the world to take notice. And if we didn't have social media or smart phones, how many more innocent lives would we have lost? SILENCE KILLS."

3. Knicks hire wunderkind scout in front office role
As SNY's Ian Begley [reported]( on Saturday, the Knicks have hired now-former Pelicans scout Alex Kline to a front office job.
Kline, 26, had worked as a college-level scout for New Orleans for the last four years, and was named to Forbes' 30 under 30 list for sports at 19.
He joins a recent flurry of hires from president Leon Rose that have drawn praise from people in media and within the league. Read more about him [here](.

3. Highlights from the archive
MLB/YouTube
This week's Highlights from the archive theme: The most important game of the 2010s for the Mets, Yankees, Jets, Giants and Knicks.
Today's game: Game 4 of the 2015 NLCS, Mets vs. Cubs, which the Mets won, 8-3, to head to the World Series.
GIF'd above: Lucas Duda's first-inning, three-run home run off Jason Hammel.
Best performances from the game:
- Duda: 3-for-5, two doubles, one homer, 5 RBI.
- Daniel Murphy: 4-for-5, one home run, 2 RBI.
FYI: With '73 as the lone anomaly, the Mets have won the pennant roughly every 15 years ('69, '86, '00, '15). Either this is a meaningless non-linear trend, or we're in for a rough 2020s.
Other arguments: Johan Santana's no-hitter; Game 5 of the 2015 NLDS; Pete Alonso's 53rd home run game.
