1. MLB's potential 2020 realignment, explained
Vincent Carchietta/USA Today
In case you missed it, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported new details on Friday of what a season [within the confines of Arizona]( could look like.
More specifically, how the 30 teams might be realigned for 2020:
- "Major League Baseball, assessing myriad proposals, has discussed a radical plan that would eliminate the traditional American and National Leagues for 2020, a high-ranking official told USA TODAY Sports, and realign all six divisions for an abbreviated season.
- The official spoke on the condition of anonymity because the proposal is one of several being discussed."
Specifically: MLB would break up the 30 teams into two leagues, the Grapefruit League and Cactus League, and six divisions.
For the Mets: They'd join a new Grapefruit East of Washington, Houston, St. Louis and Miami.
For the Yankees: They'd join a new Grapefruit North of Philadelphia, Toronto, Detroit and Pittsburgh.
The Mets would join a division of three playoff teams and the two 2019 World Series finalists; the Yankees would join a division of four cellar dwellers.
The bottom line: Nothing is concrete yet.
Wrote Nightengale:
- "The (anonymous) official cautioned that nothing has been decided. They will continue to wait until advised by health and government officials that it’s safe to start the season, holding out hope that teams could return to their major league cities, even including fans.
- Yet for now they’ll continue to explore all options."

Brad Penner/USA Today: Guardians fans like this one won't have a team to root for in 2021
2 NBA players, 1 WNBA player, 1 retiree
Results from last night's ESPN H O R S E competition, ranked from least to most watchable:
- (Former Knick) Chauncey Billups beat Trae Young in an unglorified free throw contest.
- Zach LaVine swept a very retired, but very entertaining Paul Pierce.
- Mike Conley's trick shots were too much for Tamika Catchings to handle.
- Allie Quigley's sharpshooting was, along with being the most impressive development of the night, too much for Chris Paul.
The semifinals (Quigley vs. LaVine and Billups vs. Conley) are on Thursday on ESPN at 9 p.m.

3. Highlights from the archive
NBA/YouTube
GIF'd above: New York Knick forward and Hall of Famer Bob McAdoo doing a trick shot in a H O R S E competition against Pete Maravich during the 1977-78 season.
Maravich would end up winning (you can watch the matchup [in full here]( and made it all the way to the finals of what was a season-long, 32-player H O R S E tournament televised by CBS.
- In the finals, Maravich was hurt, so Rick Barry took over for him and lost to Paul Westphal, the 1977-78 H O R S E champion.
- That matchup, regrettably, is not on YouTube.
As for McAdoo, a forgotten great player of the '70s:
- He put up huge numbers for the Knicks in his one full season in New York (1977-78), making the All-Star Game with 26.5-12.8-3.8 averages.
- His best season came in 1974-75, as a Buffalo Brave (now the Clippers), when he averaged 34.5 points and 14.1 rebounds, which resulted in his first and only MVP award.

- Larry David [explained the background]( behind George's job with the Yankees on "Seinfeld."
- Pete Alonso, moonlighting [as a poet]( while describing the Mets' black jerseys: "The orange and blue accents are like the city lights in the night sky."
- There was a brief moment over the weekend where Donovan Mitchell seemed obtainable in a trade. That moment, [it appears]( is over.
- Leon Rose [is reportedly]( open to trading Julius Randle.
- Eli Manning to Plaxico Burress. 17-14. [You're welcome](.
- Anthony Causi, beloved sports photographer for the New York Post, [passed away]( from COVID-19 on Sunday.
