Tracking the Knicks' and Nets' 2016 free agent signings Aaron Doster/USA Today: Joakim Noah made $1.35 million for every game he played with the Knicks In case it has slipped your mind, the summer of 2016 in the NBA saw an unprecedented spike in free agency spending that coincided with a bloated outlook on future salary cap projections. What resulted was a great many terrible contracts, most of which were four-year deals, which crippled future spending but are finally coming off the books this summer, resumed season or not. Examples: - Timofey Mosgov; Lakers; four years, $64 million. - Evan Turner; Portland; four years, $70 million. The Knicks and Nets were not immune to silly contracts that summer. Here's a look at the ones they handed out, and what's happened to those players in the four years since: Joakim Noah; Knicks; four years, $72 million: - Played 53 games over two seasons in New York. - Was waived and stretched in Oct., 2018 and is owed $12 million over the next two years by the Knicks. - Signed a one-year deal with Memphis in Dec., 2018, and hasn't played in the NBA since the end of the 2018-19 season. Courtney Lee; Knicks; four years, $50 million: - Played 165 games for New York over three seasons. - His contract was attached to Kristaps Porzingis in a trade to the Mavericks, done as a way for the Knicks to shed salary. Jeremy Lin; Nets; three years, $36 million: - Played 37 games over two seasons in Brooklyn. - Was traded to Atlanta in the 2018-19 offseason for Isaïa Cordinier, who never played in the NBA. - Was traded to the Raptors during the 2018-19 season, and last played in China. FYI: The Nets also offered Allen Crabbe a four-year, $75 million deal but Portland matched the contract, retaining Crabbe for an annual value of $18.75 million. --------------------------------------------------------------- DAILY TRIVIA Name the last three Knicks players to make an All-Star Game. 2. Your questions, answered by our insiders Danielle Parhizkaran/USA Today Over the past week, SNY insiders Ian Begley, Andy Martino and Ralph Vacchiano have compiled mailbags based on reader questions. Below is a sample of each, with links to the full articles... Begley, on who the Knicks should draft as their point guard of the future, if LaMelo Ball is off the board: - "Some scouts see (Alabama's) Kira Lewis Jr. as that player. Lewis Jr. is widely projected as a late first-round pick. But the opinions there are all over the map. Others believe (Iowa State's) Tyrese Haliburton will be a strong shooter at the next level." Read the full Knicks mailbag [here](. Vacchiano, on how serious Dave Gettleman is about moving up in the draft: - "It's hard to say how 'serious' he is without knowing if there are even any offers yet. He's definitely interested, though. He knows he can drop a couple of spots and still end up with the same player he would've taken at 4. Plus, because of the quarterbacks, he's in a power position." Read the full Giants mailbag [here](. Vacchiano, on chances the Jets trade Jamal Adams: - "I guess I should start by saying: I don't think they will. I think if they wanted to trade Adams they would've done it at the deadline last year when the Dallas Cowboys were clearly hot for him." Martino, on the idea of a black uniform for the Yankees: - "They would obviously never be so tacky as to force their players into those ugly shirts." [At least he's consistent](. Read the full Yankees mailbag [here](. --------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Highlights from the archive SNY/Twitter GIF'd above: A neat piece of footage of the final out of the 1969 World Series, on a pitch delivered by Jerry Koosman, which was caught by left fielder Cleon Jones. Two things stand out from the GIF above: - The way Koosman puts his hands on his hips as he watches the final out, almost like he can't believe what's about to happen. - The way Jones drops to one knee after making the final catch, as if to say, give me one quick second to soak all of this in. --------------------------------------------------------------- 4. The New York Minute - Former Jet Chris Johnson [has been accused]( in a murder-for-hire plot. - Could Jets cornerback Bless Austin be in line [for a breakout]( 2020? - [Here's how]( the Giants could land pass rusher Yannick Ngakoue. - [Here are]( five late-rounders the Jets might be interested in. - NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell [says the league]( is "planning to play." --------------------------------------------------------------- Trivia answer: Kristaps Porgingis (2018), Carmelo Anthony (2012-16), Tyson Chandler (2013). That's the buzzer, folks. Stay safe and enjoy your weekend.
