Get Today’s New York Sports Here Tweet of the Day --------------------------------------------------------------- Good morning, 👋 and welcome to The Warm-Up! Some good Mets news: Starting this Thursday, SNY will live stream every Mets game until the players hit the field again on Twitter and YouTube via MLB The Show 20. [More details here](. --------------------------------------------------------------- On SNY.tv/videos... BNNY: Living Room Edition - [Noah Syndergaard's Tommy John timeline]( Out of Office Replies - [Jeané Coakley on the Jets' improved offensive line]( AND DEBUTING TODAY... The Cookie Club with J.D. and Dom - [Click here for a sneak preview!]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Today's word count: 674 words (about six minutes) --------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Putting Noah Syndergaard's surgery in context SNY graphic Seemingly out of nowhere, the Mets [announced on Tuesday]( that Noah Syndergaard needs Tommy John surgery. - Brodie Van Wagenen, via a Tuesday statement: "After experiencing discomfort in his elbow before Spring Training was suspended due to the pandemic, Noah and our health and performance department have been in constant contact." His diagnosis is a torn right ulnar collateral ligament, and he'll undergo surgery on Thursday in West Palm Beach, Fl. - By the numbers: Syndergaard is the fifth Mets pitcher since 2010 (Jacob deGrom, 2011; Steven Matz, 2010; Matt Harvey, 2014; Zack Wheeler, 2015) to have the procedure, and the third ace this offseason to need it, joining the Yankees' Luis Severino and Boston's Chris Sale. - (Overall, Tommy John [surgeries have dipped]( from 143 among minor and major leaguers in 2015 to 90 in 2019.) What makes things more complicated is based on the 12-16 month recovery timeline, he may not be back to normal until perhaps midway through the 2021 season, which is his free agent season. From SNY's Andy Martino, who gave the injury news a silver lining: - "A significantly shortened season and expanded postseason are both possibilities, perhaps likelihoods. The primary thing to understand is that while MLB and the Players' Association are discussing these ideas, they are guessing along with the rest of the world about when any of us can return to our lives. - All of that adds up to the best possible time for the Mets to lose Syndergaard and the Yankees to lose Severino (and for that matter, for the Red Sox to lose Chris Sale). - A pitcher undergoing Tommy John surgery this spring will likely miss fewer games than if he'd had the procedure at any other time in history. And the team losing that pitcher will need to fill fewer starts than ever before." Robby Anderson's best moments as a Jet Robert Deutsch/USA Today Robby Anderson's free agency came to an end yesterday, when he agreed to a two-year, $20 million deal with the Panthers. (The Jets [quickly found his replacement]( -- former Buccaneer Breshad Perriman on a one-year, $8 million deal. [Heres's how]( Perriman did in his final four games of 2019.) With the Sun God heading south, here are a few memorable moments from his four years with the Jets, which started with a low-stakes contract after going undrafted out of Temple. 1. [Anderson's first career touchdown catch]( - It came during a blowout loss to the Colts on a Monday night, and was a 40-yard connection from ... wait for it ... Bryce Petty. (If you ever find yourself playing niche Jets trivia from the 2010s, keep that in mind.) 2. [Anderson's career-best game against his new team]( - Anderson's best statistical game came on Nov. 26, 2017 against the Panthers: a two-touchdown, 146-yard performance. Best of all was his celebration after the second TD catch. Click the link and enjoy. 3. [Anderson's 92-yard touchdown catch from Sam Darnold]( - It came during one the Jets' better wins last season--against the Cowboys--and was the second-longest completion in franchise history. 4. [When Anderson met Sideshow Bob]( - Real recognize real. On SNY.tv: [Grading Joe Douglas' roster additions]( --------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Highlights from the archive NBA/YouTube GIF'd above: The Stephon Marbury era didn't bring the Knicks a whole lot of success, but it did bring this mesmerizing buzzer-beater against the Jazz in December 2006. Two things: - The Knicks had only eight players suited up for this game because the game prior [was the infamous Knicks-Nuggets brawl]( in which Carmelo Anthony threw a quick punch and bolted out of harm's way. - Malik Rose's towel snap at the end of the GIF is simply elite. --------------------------------------------------------------- 4. The New York Minute - John Calipari, [on why]( the Knicks should stick with Kevin Knox: "It's going to take time. What you don't want to do -- and teams have done this in that league -- they give up on a young, young player too soon." - [A look]( at how the current RB market could impact Saquon Barkley's next Giants deal. - [Here's]( SNY's Ralph Vacchiano's updated mock draft. - [A look]( at how the hiatus is both hurting and helping the Yankees. - If the season started today -- which, sadly, is just a dream -- Giancarlo Stanton [would likely]( be in the lineup. --------------------------------------------------------------- Trivia answer: Dwight Gooden, with 157. That's the buzzer, folks. Enjoy your Wednesday. This email was sent by: SportsNet New York (SNY) 150 Greenwich st 50th floor New York, NY 10007 US [Unsubscribe]( [Twitter]( [Instagram]( [Facebook](
