With Beltran out, the search reopens Now-former Mets manager Carlos Beltran become the third manager to lose his job in the past week in the fallout from the Astros' tech-driven sign-stealing scandal of 2017, joining A.J. Hinch and Alex Cora. The fact that his name was included in MLB's investigation into the scandal came as an internal surprise to the Mets, [reported SNY's Andy Martino yesterday](. In the end, the two sides agreed to mutually part ways, with Beltran [not wanting]( to become a distraction. Here's what Beltran said in a statement: - "Over my 20 years in the game, I've always taken pride in being a leader & doing things the right way, & in this situation, I failed. As a veteran player on the team, I should've recognized the severity of the issue & truly regret the actions that were taken." It's not fair to anyone, and it's a sad day for the human beings impacted by it. - "Less than four months ago, many in the public felt energized and excited by the Beltran hire. He was an iconic figure -- the best position player in the history of the franchise -- who declined other opportunities because he wanted to manage the Mets." Read the rest [here](. --------------------------------------------------------------- 3. How the Yankees are reacting to the cheating scandal The Astros' sign-stealing scandal has brought out many reactions from many different people (and organizations) affiliated with the Yankees. Here's a quick roundup... C.C. Sabathia, [via his R2C2 podcast]( - "F--king '17 we should have won the World Series. I don't care what nobody says. And now that this happened, nobody can ever f--king tell me that we wasn't gonna win it." Aaron Judge: - Deleted his Instagram post from 2017 congratulating Jose Altuve on winning the MVP. The post, which no longer, exists, [read]( "M-V-P! Nobody more deserving than you!! Congrats on an unforgettable 2017!!" Mark Texeira, on ESPN's Get Up!: - β€œI don’t think the Mets have a choice, either. They have to fire Carlos Beltran. The only reason Beltran wasn’t punished as a bigger part of this was because of that immunity … it’s really a loophole for Carlos Beltran because he retired immediately after that World Series.” The Staten Island Yankees: - The Class-A short-season S.I. Yanks announced this week they're holding a promotion for a 2020 game against the Tri-Valley Cats, an Astros affiliate, where the first 500 fans [will get a mini trash can](. [According]( to SNY's Ian Begley, he'll be with Westchester on Saturday, as well. Wooten signed a two-way deal with New York earlier this week, which means he can spend up to 45 days with the Knicks this season. 3. Kyrie, and his comments, are back In case you missed Kyrie Irving's comments from after Wednesday's loss to the 76ers, [here they are]( - "Collectively, I feel like we have great pieces, but it's pretty glaring we need one more piece or two more pieces that will complement myself, [Kevin Durant], [DeAndre Jordan], [Garrett Temple], Spence [Dinwiddie], Caris [LeVert], and we'll see how that evolves."
