He'll miss the first 63 games of the 2020 season. - A [deeper look]( at Quinnen Williams' rookie season with the Jets. - In NFC East news, it appears Jason Garrett [will not return]( as head coach of the Cowboys. - What the Jets [must do]( to improve this offseason. - [According to]( ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Caris LeVert is [expected to return]( from his thumb injury on Saturday against the Raptors. --------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Dellin Betances, New Yorker all the way, explains his choice Dellin Betances was introduced as a Met on Thursday in a press conference at Citi Field. The four-time All-Star agreed to a one-year deal worth $10.5 million in December, as was first reported by SNY's Andy Martino. Here's what Betances, who can now boast a meaningful life experience in all five boroughs, had to say yesterday... On staying [in New York City]( - "As I said on my social media post, New York is in my blood, you know. I grew up playing in the Lower East Side. I went to high school in Brooklyn. - "In '07, I played minor league ball in Staten Island. In 2011, I made my major league debut in the Bronx, and now I stand here, getting the chance to wear this Mets uniform, playing in Queens." On playing [for Carlos Beltran]( and the role in his recruitment: - "I got the chance to eat with him a couple times in the offseason, just to celebrate with him as a manager, celebrate his wife for her birthday and we spoke about different things. Always, one of the topics was, 'We would love to have you. And I've told them all, the management, that we want you. So hopefully we get to have you.'" On his time with [the Yankees]( - "I'm not bitter -- I got the chance to live out my dream. I signed there. I spent a lot of years there. I appreciate all of those guys." On his injury-filled 2019: - "Last year was hard for me. I enjoy winning and I wasn't able to be there for my guys, so that was hard." On SNY.tv: [With 'big trade' still possible for Mets, here are five players Brodie Van Wagenen should pursue]( --------------------------------------------------------------- 2. The playoff bandwagoning guide for Jets fans With Wild Card Weekend upon us, here are suggestions for who (and who not to) root for if you're a Jets fan with an eye on the AFC... The Patriots Should you root for them? No. Why not? About 20 years of AFC dominance. Plus, a loss might mean the end of the Brady-Belichick era. The Bills Should you root for them? No. Why not? The Bills this season are the AFC East hipster alternative that the Jets could have been. The Ravens Should you root for them? Probably not. Why? The Ravens thumped the Jets on national TV and ran circles around the AFC East in general, but Lamar Jackson is very fun to watch. The Titans Should you root for them? No. Why not? Similar to the Bills, there is an alternate universe where the Jets were the ones with the impressive turnaround this year. Plus, Tennessee's coach, Mike Vrabel, is a Patriots guy. The Texans Should you root for them? Maybe. Why? The Texans and Jets have very little history, though New York is over .500 ([5-3]( all-time against Houston, which means the Texans have caused Jets fans more good than harm. The Chiefs Should you root for them? Yes. Why? The Chiefs and Jets [are two star-crossed]( AFL franchises with a 19-19-1 all-time head-to-head record, whose only Super Bowl wins came in back-to-back years. Plus, the last playoff game between these two, in 1986, was a 35-15 win for the Jets. --------------------------------------------------------------- DAILY TRIVIA When's the last time the Giants and Jets made the playoffs in the same year? 3. Vin Scully's call of Don Larsen's perfect game (Larsen played it cool. Yogi didn't.) With Don Larsen's passing on Wednesday came a huge wave of appreciation for the former Yankee, still the only man in the history of baseball to throw a perfect game in the World Series. And, because of the vast treasure trove that is the internet, anyone curious could find the final out of that perfect game -- Game 5 of the 1956 World Series, Yankees vs. Dodgers -- on YouTube. [Here it is]( and here's a quick transcript of how Vin Scully, 28 at the time, called the historic moment. - "Got 'em! The greatest game ever pitched. Baseball history by Don Larsen. A no-hitter, a perfect game, in a World Series. Never in the history of the game has it ever happened in a World Series." --------------------------------------------------------------- 4. The Grab Bag (Image via [Thrillist]( Some things to do in New York City this weekend... - If you're wondering why the Knicks and Rangers are both out of town, it's because Madison Square Garden [is hosting]( pro bull riding this weekend. - Watch [Uncut Gems]( if you haven't, for some really solid 2012 basketball content. - Take your children (or just yourself) to the Brooklyn Children's Museum [for a live animal exhibit]( which includes a sloth. - If you're in the mood for some men's college basketball, La Salle plays Fordham on Sunday at 2 p.m. - Cheapest SeatGeek ticket for Raptors at Nets on Saturday: [$80]( TRIVIA ANSWER The 2006-07 season, in which the Jets lost in the wild card round to the Patriots, and the Giants lost in the same round to the Panthers. --------------------------------------------------------------- That's the buzzer, folks.
