He's a Jersey guy Coming to New York for the first time in his career is basically a homecoming for Porcello. He was born in Morristown, N.J. and grew up in Chester. And he made a name for himself while pitching at Seton Hall Prep during his high school days. 2. He has some important hardware Porcello brings a Cy Young award with him to the Mets, after winning with the Red Sox in 2016. He led MLB in wins that season with 22, while owning a 3.15 ERA over 33 starts. He was also a member of the Boston's 2018 World Series team. 3. He loves fly fishing There are many good spots in the Tri-State area for Porcello to partake in his favorite activity outside baseball, though Flushing might not be one of them. 4. He's been around a while Porcello's rookie year came as a 20-year-old in Detroit in 2009. He's won double-digit games in nine of his 10 seasons in the bigs, and now has the most wins on the Mets' staff, with 149. On SNY.tv: [The potential ripple effects of signing Porcello]( | [MLB scouts explain how Porcello can rebound with Mets in 2020]( --------------------------------------------------------------- 2. The 2019 Winter Meetings, by the numbers $814 million Scott Boras' three super clients -- Stephen Strasburg, Anthony Rendon and Gerrit Cole -- each agreed to contracts that together [totaled $814 million]( dollars, a portion of which will he headed to Boras, of course. In the end, we got the fireworks he promised. There will be no replica of last year, when the MLB world paused waiting for Bryce Harper and Manny Machado to sign. 63 tweets Not including retweets, SNY baseball insider Andy Martino tweeted 63 times from the Winter Meetings, including one [to set the record straight](. $1.5 The reported difference between Brett Gardner's one-year, $12.5 million deal and Didi Gregorius' one-year, $14 million deal with the Phillies ended up only being $1.5 million. Six starters The Mets entered the Winter Meetings with four starters. After signing Michael Wacha and Rick Porcello, they left with six. "If all are healthy then we have more decisions to make that hopefully will be a high-class problem," Van Wagenen [said Thursday](. "But at this point we're going in with six bonafide starters." 197 innings In the last four years, Porcello has averaged 197 innings pitched per season. He's been nothing if not durable, though in that same span his ERA went from 3.15 in 2016 to 5.52 last year. --------------------------------------------------------------- DAILY TRIVIA Six pitchers have won a Cy Young award in both leagues. Try and name them. Hint: Four of them retired this century. One is still active. 3. It happens to the best of 'em (This GIF is not sped up.) There may come a point, maybe as early as next year, when this doesn't look quite so easy for Lamar Jackson. For now, though, the Jets, the AFC, the NFL -- everyone is in trouble. Jackson continued his march toward the MVP trophy last night at home against the Jets during a 42-21 win that dropped New York to 5-9. Jackson's final line: - 15 of 23 passing, five touchdown passes, 212 passing yards, 86 yards rushing (His total on the ground broke Michael Vick's record for rushing yards in a season by a quarterback).
