Washington Commanders coach Ron Rivera lives by the mantra "pay attention to what's important, not what's interesting," which is why he focuses on the needs and concerns of his team and works to model accountability, attitude and preparation. "I think you've got to create a positive culture that is built through character," Rivera says. Full Story: [CNN]( (9/7)

It's curious that a man who co-founded a pioneering leveraged buyout company once spoke so eloquently about sacrifice and its role in the greater good, but businessman Jerry Kohlberg made excellent points about it in his retirement speech. His points reflect the four tenets of Stoicism: courage, temperance, justice, and wisdom, and leadership expert John Baldoni shares how to incorporate them into your personal business model. As people age, signals from the brain's central circadian clock to the organs' peripheral clocks weaken, making it more difficult to recover from long-distance travel across time zones, but eating a single large meal early in the morning after travel can ease recovery from jet lag, according to a study in the journal [Chaos](. Researchers created computer models integrating central and peripheral circadian clocks, then analyzed the effect of cues such as food consumption and light exposure. That's what Fran Ritchie of the Society for the Preservation of Natural History Collections says to folks who believe an 80-year-old display of 150 mounted animals should be removed due to recently discovered arsenic levels. Many of the animals such as a polar bear, tiger, lion, gorilla and others that once adorned a safari hunter's hardware store, then a history museum and for years now the entrance to South Dakota's Great Plains Zoo include the heavy metal arsenic, but taxidermist John Janelli say it's part of an art installation that shouldn't be tampered with and doesn't waft through the air. Candace Chellew Chellew "Leadership is not about you, but it will start with you," [says Washington Commanders coach Ron Rivera](. As a leader, he says, our focus should always be on our people as we seek to instill a sense of empowerment and ownership. [John Baldoni adds]( that this kind of cheerful sacrifice "demonstrates seriousness" on a leader's part. "It's easy to talk about making things better. The challenge is how, and how it will always require a degree of investment — time, money and, yes, even sacrifice," Baldoni writes. Do you agree that sacrifice is demanded of leaders?
