I got a response from several readers, but author and leadership coach [Gregg Vanourek]( wrote about his experience playing in bands over the years. "When I joined a really good band in high school, I learned that in band practice the key is to stop focusing on my own playing and start listening to the whole band. That was a real revelation for me -- to listen to the other instruments and to the whole song together, so that our songs were 'tight,' and we were aligned. It stepped up my playing and our music. "I also learned about how the different band members bring different skills, techniques, ideas and passions to the table. Sometimes that leads to conflict and other times it leads to magic." As it goes in a band, so it goes in business. Teams that work together, listen to each other and have the psychological safety they need to bring their ideas, skills and passions to the table will soon find themselves working in harmony and creating a beautiful masterpiece together. In band lingo, that's called being "in the pocket." Thanks for the input, Gregg! If this newsletter helps you, please tell your colleagues, friends or anyone who can benefit.
