Before this building in Spain was a nightclub, it was a hospital, a church, and a school. But archaeologists have recently determined that, originally, the structure was a medieval Jewish synagogue — one of only five remaining in all of Spain. Egyptian officials have released photos of an ancient scroll, the 52-foot-long (16 meters) Book of the Dead papyrus recently discovered in Saqqara. The 10 images show ancient illustrations of gods and scenes from the afterlife, as well as text on the document, which is more than 2,000 years old. Last week, some media outlets claimed that archaeologists at Chichen Itza had discovered a previously unknown elite housing complex. But it turns out these "newly discovered" structures were actually found more than a century ago, according to the Mexican National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH). For the first time, scientists generated stem cells from bats that can give rise to any type of cell found in the animals' fuzzy bodies.
