[Humble leaders want to help others succeed](
Leaders who exert the most influence are those who cheer people's success, seek to serve all levels of the organization and are not afraid to admit mistakes, writes Eric Torrence. "Leaders who admit their shortcomings, ask forgiveness when they're wrong, and are open to feedback have staying power through their posture," he writes. [Thin Difference]( (8/29)

[Talent and systems set the stage for innovation](
Great talent and the right processes, systems, measurements and rewards are what drive innovation, say George Day and Gregory Shea. "The very best, fast-growing companies have literally a war room on innovation talent -- that is where they keep all the dossiers on the people they want to retain," Day says. [Communication requires more than the golden rule](
The golden rule is insufficient for good communication because you're not thinking enough about how the other person wants to receive information, writes Diana Peterson-More. "If we practice the 'platinum rule' of communication -- communicating with others the way they want to be communicated with -- our chances of success increase exponentially," she writes. [How to handle your boss cutting you off](

[Seek new experiences to battle the loneliness of change](
If you're feeling lonely or disoriented after moving to a new home or job, find ways to stay in touch with people even as you find new routines and experiences, says psychologist and transition expert Elisa Robyn. "When we understand the loneliness is part of the transition we will be able to acknowledge it and move on," she says. [Rewire]( (8/23)

Andrew Davison, CEO of the cannabis intellectual property company GCH, credits co-founder Willie Nelson for his tireless advocacy for farmers and for legalization. "Over the years, Willie had several run-ins with law enforcement over cannabis, and yet he never took a plea or bent the knee, and instead continued to speak out for all our collective rights," he says. [Cholesterol isn't a problem for crows](
A [study]( shows that urban crows have high cholesterol levels after eating human food, such as cheeseburgers, and while rural birds deliberately fed burgers also saw higher cholesterol levels, that didn't seem to affect their survival rate. "If you're a chubby crow, essentially, that's considered to be good condition," says researcher Andrea Townsend. [National Geographic online]( (8/26)
