As Generation X and millennial women reach various stages in their menopausal journey, many are calling out a lack of guidance, education and awareness -- a gap that brands can tap into, and a market that is expected to reach $22.7 billion by 2028, writes Parallel Path's Amanda Williams. Marketers can help women navigate menopause with education, advocacy and empathetic campaigns, Williams advises. Women of color make up about 20% of the US population but only 7% of companies' executive leaders, write Spencer Stuart consultants Erin L. Henry and Priya Ratnam, whose interviews with seven top leaders of color point out the importance of sponsorships and strong relationships, and companies focusing on identifying employees' potential early and providing opportunities and support. "Fundamentally, the key to getting a sponsor, no matter who you are, is to do good work, because if you do good work and senior leaders can see how you are driving performance for their organization, they're more inclined to put their reputations behind your name," says Wendy Short Bartie, senior vice president and general manager for Bristol Myers Squibb's US Oncology and Hematology. Humble leaders, characterized by self-awareness, a commitment to learning and recognition of others' contributions, enhance workplace well-being and employee confidence, writes Alaina Love, the CEO of Purpose Linked Consulting. "Best of all, when teams view leaders as authentic and approachable, they're far more likely to step forward with ideas, as well as share concerns about what might not be going well so issues can be addressed in a timely manner," Love writes. With the rapid news cycle and constant access to information, leaders must acknowledge that external social and cultural issues impact their employees and emphasize the importance of mutual respect and staying focused on the "the shared mission and values of the business," says Karen Testa, director of global communications for Bell Flight. "Even though a company may not be directly involved in an external issue or its outcome, good leaders acknowledge current events and work closely with their communications teams, who can serve as a barometer of employee sentiment and human vulnerability," Testa adds. Chefs have long been mixing distinct cuisines into singular pasta dishes and have ramped up the medleys in recent years with menu items like elote pasta at Phoenix's Valentine, where chef Donald Hawk tops hand-made tagliarini with crispy roasted corn, "goatija" instead of cotija and asiago. In Los Angeles, chef Danielle Duran Zucca serves Duck Duck Duck at Amiga Amore, bringing together duck carnitas, crispy duck skin and duck gravy on epazote-parsley linguine. Restaurants from California to Texas and Thailand are carefully balancing Asian and American flavors and ingredients for novel approaches to brunch, with dishes like Thai tea French toast. At Breaking Dawn in Los Gatos, Calif., owner Liz Truong looks to her daughter's favorite foods to create a menu that includes Resting Brunch Face, fried chicken and Vietnamese iced coffee syrup atop a green pandan waffle, and at the Peached Tortilla restaurants in Austin, Texas, chicken katsu curry comes with a fried egg. Our energy ebbs and flows during the day, so the best leaders understand when they'll be at their best and when they may need a break from the computer or other tasks and take a walk or lie down for a short nap, writes Kristen Hendrix. If a nap isn't feasible (especially if there are policies against it), Hendrix recommends stepping away from your work and finding a quiet place to settle your mind, do a mental check-in and regain focus from your "racing brain." You’ve been asked to give a presentation to the team, lay out a new initiative for your boss, or even give a speech before thousands.
