1/2 cup warm water
1/4 cup warm milk
2¼ teaspoons dry active yeast
â
cup granulated sugar + 1 tablespoon
¼ cup unsalted butter melted
1 egg
1 egg yolk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (add more as needed)
½ teaspoon salt
Cooking spray
2 cups powdered sugar
¼ cup milk
1 tablespoon light corn syrup
1½ teaspoons vanilla extract Instructions:
Donuts- - Grab a large measuring cup and add the 1/2 cup of warm water, the 1/4 cup of warm milk, the dry active yeast, and the tablespoon of sugar. - Before mixing, let the yeast mixture froth up and continue to rise for about 5 minutes. In the case that it does not froth up, discard the mixture and try again with new yeast. The rising of the mixture is essential in creating nice and airy donuts! - In a stand mixer add the 1/3 cup of sugar, 1/4 cup of melted butter, 1 egg, 1 egg yolk, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 2 1/2 cups of flour, and a 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Then pour in the yeast mixture, and place your hook attachment onto your mixer. - Begin mixing on a low speed. Mix until the flour incorporates with the liquid. Then, take the speed up to high and beat for 5 minutes. Be sure to scrape the sides of the bowl so that everything gets blended together smoothly. - Side Note: If the dough is looking a little sticky, add 1 tablespoon of flour at a time. Be careful to not add too much flour, or the dough will be dry! The dough should have a slightly sticky texture to it. - Place the dough in a large greased bowl and cover with a kitchen towel or plastic wrap. Let the dough rise for about an hour or until it doubles in size. - When the dough looks about ready, punch it down a few times (to release the air bubbles). Then go ahead and transfer it to a floured surface. - Using a rolling pin, roll the dough on the floured surface until it is about 1/2 of an inch in thickness. - Use a donut cutter (or any round sharper surface to cut - I used a cup!) and cut out as many donuts as you can. For the center you can use any round shape that you would like in order to get a little donut hole! Reshape the scraps, roll it out again, repeat the process. - Place the cut out donuts onto a baking sheet that is lined with parchment paper, cover them lightly and let them rise for about 20-30 minutes. - Preheat your Air Fryer to 345 degrees and spray the basket lightly with cooking spray. You can also spray the donuts if you prefer that instead! - Place a few donuts in the Air Fryer basket, be sure that they are not touching. Air Fry the donuts for about 4-5 minutes. Repeat the process with the remaining donuts. When they are finished, set them on a plate that is lined with paper towels. Glaze- - To make the glaze, grab a mixing bowl and combine the 2 cups of powdered sugar, 1/4 cup of milk, 1 tablespoon of light corn syrup, and 1 1/2 teaspoons of vanilla extract. - While the donuts are still warm, dip them into the glaze and make sure they are fully covered. - Set the glazed donuts onto a cooling rack so that the excess glaze can drip off onto a pan. You can also just set the donuts onto wax paper, it will work just fine! - Side Note: The glaze will set shinier when the donuts are still hot, so do not let them cool off first!
