When I think about this graceful symbol of America, I also think about the conservation and environmental efforts that saved it from extinction. By the 1960s, its numbers had dwindled to about 1,000. Today, the bald eagle can be found in every U.S. state except Hawaii, and its numbers, now in the hundreds of thousands, continue to rebound.
