Navigate A Curated Collection Of Keepsakes [View in your browser]( [phone] +61 2 9255 0600 [Silversea Cruises]( [icon-logo]( Dear {NAME}, With their striking, bright-blue feet, the Blue-footed Boobies are one of the most intriguing bird species of the eastern Pacific Ocean, from southern California down to the Galapagos Islands and Peru. Their clown-like appearance earned them the unflattering Spanish nickname bobo – silly or dumb – which would then evolve to ‘booby’ in English. But appearances can often be misleading, as this funny-looking seabird masters an enchanting and elegant mating ritual to ensure its survival. In this latest chapter of [Behind the Lens]( expedition filmmaker Ross Vernon McDonald takes us to Lobos de Tierra island off the northern coasts of Peru. A rich environment of salt water, desert sands and feathers, the small island is home to a thriving colony of our blue-footed friends. The curiosity of the winged denizens allowed McDonald to capture an intimate portrait of their daily lives, including, of course, their unique courtship dance. Stay safe, stay healthy… and stay curious. Warmest Regards, Barbara Muckermann Chief Marketing Officer [DISCOVER MORE]( [To the Curious]( [Behind the Lens: Blue-footed Boobies in Peru]( "Their facial expressions are amusing as they tilt their head to figure out what you are and walk around you with their big silly feet. Spanish conquistadors gave them their name - bobo, which means clown-like - when they first discovered them and they really do live up to that character." Ross Vernon McDonald, Expedition Filmmaker [READ ARTICLE]( [VIEW VOYAGES]( [To the Curious]( [The Dance of Blue-footed Boobies: An Act of Romance or Survival?]( The fabulous flirting of Blue-footed Boobies is key to sustaining one of Latin America’s most enchanting species. If I hadn’t known better, I might have thought the brown and white bird in front of me was in distress. I watched as it thrust its tail feathers into the air, and then shoved its long, pointy beak at the sky and let out a shrill whistle.
