theCUBE analysis & upcoming broadcasts [Wrapping up 2023 with a look back and predictions on the year to come]( In this week’s edition of Pod]( John Furrier and Dave Vellante wrap up 2023 and give their top tech predictions for 2024. They discuss a range of subjects, including market deals, mergers and acquisitions, AI funding and the performance of tech stocks, particularly in comparison to the S&P 500.
Some of Furrier and Vellante’s predictions for 2024 include the year being a reset year financially, the increase of investment in AI and at least one major new AI-enabled cybersecurity-related incident.
“I think we successfully predicted supercloud, next-generation impact of multiple clouds,” Furrier said. “I think we also predicted the generative AI wave. Again, we underpredicted. That came in heavier than we thought.”
John and Dave also mention significant news, such as Apple discontinuing certain products and the rise of deepfake technology affecting the stock market. In addition, they explore emerging trends in data and AI, emphasizing the shift toward intelligent data platforms and the importance of governance in the tech sector.

As always, we provide our perspective on the market and players with a view toward trends to watch in 2024.
“The rapid awareness and adoption of AI has increased concerns around security, governance, compliance and business risk,” Vellante said. “The digital business imperative to improve customer experience combined with a vastly more complex technology environment, comprising multiple clouds, you now have IoT in there, containers, application integration and the popularity of open-source software are driving the need for better observability across technology stacks.”
Unfortunately, fragmented IT environments, lack of talent and a spate of existing installed monitoring tools are preventing organizations from achieving their full stack observability aspirations. With that being said, leaders possessing full-stack capabilities, cloud-native tooling and genuine AI expertise will be well-positioned to navigate the wave of consolidation in 2024 and beyond.

“In the past we were doing only transactional data, and now we are looking at all the other engagement data that needs to be brought to life,” Auradkar said. “And that was the impetus behind Data Cloud. And our customers were trying to build all of this through a variety of different fragmented systems. They are in the business of delivering value to their downstream customers.”
The genesis of Salesforce Data Cloud
During the conversation, Auradkar shared insights on the Salesforce Data Cloud, the vision behind what Salesforce is doing, and the impetus and genesis of Data Cloud, along with thoughts on the set up needed for the metadata-driven approach. This includes embedding and integrating all data so that there is an enterprise-wide view of the status of an enterprise, and then shifting that view from "strings to things" by capturing all the intelligence that has traditionally been siloed in operational apps.
