Breaking Analysis & theCUBE's upcoming episodes [What leaked court docs tell us about AWS, Azure and Google cloud market shares]( In this week’s Analysis]( theCUBE’s Dave Vellante discusses the impact of recently leaked court documents during Microsoft’s Activision/Blizzard hearing, requiring theCUBE to revisit its cloud forecasts and market share data. The poorly redacted docs, which have since been removed from public viewing, suggest that Microsoft’s Azure revenue is at least 25% lower than our previous estimates.
As a result, theCUBE has cut and revised our Azure revenue figures, which in turn increases AWS’ “Big Four” hyperscale cloud market share. Our new estimates show that AWS maintains a greater than 50% share of revenue through 2023. Although the change also helps Google Cloud, its market share is only modestly affected.
Revised figures for AWS
“We had AWS dropping its share to 50% in 2022, and below 50% was our forecast for 2023,” Vellante said. “The revised estimates indicate that AWS had a 55% share of the big four in 2022, and it holds up in the low-fifties, 53.2% in 2023. The overall market size in our model has been reduced by approximately 10%. So, we've revised our big four 2022 revenues down to around $145 billion.”
Vellante also updates theCUBE’s hyperscaler cloud revenue estimates and market share data. And, he explains how the Enterprise Technology Research data on cloud should be interpreted in this context and looks forward to potential catalysts for cloud growth, including acceleration in the fourth quarter attributable to generative AI.

Generative AI: Unveiling greenfield opportunities in the lucrative storage market
“There’s a whole open, greenfield opportunity with generative AI and all the AI applications coming,” Furrier said. “The world is changing, but the storage game still remains the same. You've got to store stuff. I think it's such a lucrative market. It's been our core CUBE market from day one.”
